The transportation Committee repo~ted to the Board.
~.~anter requested~use of the Selectmens office for a meeting of
the Co~ittee at 10:O0~A. N. Nar.~Oth_which was~granted.~Nr
~anter ' stated ~that ~the discontinuance;of~ the Woods Hole train
service on Oct 1st was ,very detrimental to the Island and,the
seriousness~of the'situation not fully appreciated by a large
number of the business men of the Island. He reported at some'
length on various meetings and hearings the ~Co~ittee had attend-
ed. Hopes~ however~ of a better steamboat schedule seemed
assured· ~ ,
~r. JonessPoke of the cape cod'and Islands Transportation
Council consolidati,~ all the work. Mr. Mantertstated'thatnh the
Conncil~ncurring so~e expenses in carryi g ou t e work to
which Nantucket would be asked to contribute, Mr.~ ~overino was
of the opinion that ~the~Selectmen's appropriation would cover
our share of these expenses.
Mr. D~ke spoke on 'the importance of getting,the plane,
boat~-~ and train schedules for the su~er, ~ stating that they were
all very much~Selaye8 this year, which delay was hampering the
work of the Publicity Co~ittee. ~ ~:~ · ~
~r. A. L. B. Fisher complained to the'Board about the park-
ing of cars on Spring and Candle Streets which made it impossibl~
for him to,unload trucks at his shop. The~Board requested the
Secretary to write-to Mr.~John L.'Hardy requesting him to take
steps to improve conditions in these streets.' ,~. , ~,
Mr. R0swell Holmes was gr~nted permission to co~d'uct a
parade from the church to the cemetery on March 19th, in
connection with the memorial services being held for Robert ~,,
Henderson.
Warrant No. ll in the amount of 44 was

bills ordered paid.
Rebimbus'& Machado Were granted permission to v~eck a
building at V Orange Street.,
~,~ It~was~voted that th~e joint-request of the N. E[~T.-CO &
N. G. 8: E. Co. to erect a~maintain a pole on Sankaty Ave. west
of School~St. take the regular course p~eecribed by law.
The request of Mr.'Soverino for Mr. Todds opinion on mak-
-ing appointments in executive session brought forth quite a ~
discussion in which Mr.~Tndio'joined; The motion-of Mr.'Todd
that the ~eeting be open lost~ to the Motion of Mr. Coffin
that they be closed,bY a vote of 4 to 1. ,
It was voted that the 'Polls be'open'from 9:00 A. M. to
5:30 P ,~:. April 2Vth at Legion Hall, W- h'

Garbage Collector..Mr Todd questt'bned his right to'tell ~,
other people who could collect~their~garbage. ~ether the Board
was obligated to appoint one collector or could issue licenses
to any who applied was referred to the~Town Counsel with~a requ~
he report at next Meeting.
Secretary to the Board of Public ~elfare. Mr. Todd felt he
didnt have the time to take the job. Mr.~Soverino was to assert-
ain whether he could be Chairman and SecretarY.
Publicity Conm~ittee. The Secretary was requested to
assertain from the Committee Secretar~ whether they wished to
reduce the size of the~Committee and also the names of the
members Sue for reappointment at this time.
The appointment~of Life Guards was ~efe~red to a later date
It wa~ voted to have ~r~~ Jaeckle do the work un'er Article
66 in connection with the Fire Stop at the~Town Dump.
