Pursuant to warrant the~' inhabitants of the town of Nantu~cket ~et'~ in'
the American Legion Hall, Tuesday September 14, 19~8 at 9:00' A. M.
in the forenoon to select the candidates for nomination at' the State
Primary to be elected at the State Election in November.
~ Instructions to Voters, penalty cards, voting lists,~ and specimen
ballots w~re posted outside the guard rail. Instructions to Voters
and penalty cards were posted in the booths. '.'
The following ballot clerks were sworn in :- Edward P. Tice, Ira W.
Appleton, Charles H. Blount and John J. Driscoll Jr.- Wesley A.
Fordyce, was sworn in as Warden.'
The ballots in three sealed packages said to contain. 528 DEMOCRATIC
and 1788 REPUBLICAN ballots were delivered to the Ballot Clerks and
their receipt taken therefore.
The ballot box was~ then ~opened for inspection. It was examined by~
Lawrence F. Mooney, Edward P. Tice, Wesley A. Fordyce and Franklin S.
Chadwick and found to be empty. The register on the ballot box was
set at 0000. The ballot box was then locked and the keys turned over
to Franklin S. Chadwick~ constakle in charge. " ' ·
Constable Moone$ presented, the Warrant for the State Primary. The
Warrant wasc read by the Town Clerk and at ~:00 A. M. the polls were
declared open. Upon motion duly 2nd. it was VOTED that the~ polls
be closed at 5:00 P.M.
At 5:00 P.M. the polls were declared closed. The register oh the
Ballot box standing at 271. - ~'
The following Tellers were then sworn in:- Charles C. Bart, EUgene
Souza, Walton H. Adams, ' Herbert C. Wood, James M. Killen, Irvin~ T.
Bartlett, Melvin LA Ray,~ Irving A.'Soverino Jr, Stuart B. Day,
Charles F~' O,Neil,~Walter D. Glidden Jr,- Walter J.' Royal and Frank
W. Ramsdell. :' -
The Ballots were removed~f~om the ball~t box, sorted and'cou~ed
and found to be REPUBLICAN 2~0, DF~IOCRATIC 31. a total of 271.
