HomeMy WebLinkAbout1946-03-11March 11, 1946. .. Pursuant to Warrant the Inhabitants o~ the Town of ~ N~ntucket met in'the'American Legion Hall, March ll, 1946 at 7:30 A.M. Cards of instructions to voters, penalty cards, voting lists and specimen ballots were posted outside the guard ~ rail. Instructions to voters and penalty cards were posted in the booths. The following Ballot Clerk's were sworn in:- Edward P.~ Tice, Ira W. Appleton, John J. Driscoll, and Clarence H. Swift. Wesley A. F0rdyce was sworn in as Warden. The Official Ballots in three packages said to contain 2200 ballots were delivered to the Ballot Clerks and their receipt taken therefor. C~nstabl~ Lawrence F. Mooney presented the Official Warrant of the meeting to' Town Clerk, Charles Clark Coff~ The ballot box was inspected by Lawrence F. Mooney, Edward P. Tice, Herbert P. Smith, and Charles Clark Cff .n and found to be empty. The register on the ballot box was set at 0000, the ballot box locked and the keys turned over to Lawrence F. Mooney, Constable in Charge. 'At 7:~0 A.M. the Town Clerk Called order and rea~ t~e Official ~arrant. Upon motion of IrVing A. Soverino,~duly seconded it was VOTED that the polls close at 5:00 P.M. and that when this meeting adjourn~it be until 7:30 P.M. Tuesday, March 12th at Dreamland Theatre. The Town Clerk then declared the Polls open, and voting _started at once. At 4:~ P.M. the Tov~ Clerk declar~ the polls would cl, se in five minutes. At 8:00 P.M. the polls were declar~ closed. People inside the guard rail were given ten minutes in which to complete and cast their ballots. Upon motinn of Wesley A. Fordyce, duly seconded it was VOTED that in the absence of the regular elected Moderator, Roy E. Sanguinetti act as Moderator pro tem f0~m~the Annual Town Meeting. "The register on the ballot box standing at 695, the ballob box was opened by Constable Charles C. Chadwick and the ballots removed. The following Tellers were sworn in:- Frank W. Moore, Charles E.~Swain, William H. Winslow. .~The~Absent~e Ball~ts wsr~~ then voted. There were 14 men,'and 1V women, a total of 31, giving the total of V26 on the ballot box register. The official bailots were sorted and counted and found t~be 69§ and the absentee.ballots 31, a total of 726. The ballot clerks at the gate and at the ballot box checked their lists and found 44V men and 279 women voted, a total of 726.
