HomeMy WebLinkAbout1945-03-12Annual Tow~ Meeting Ia ch 19 5 335 Pursuant to Warrant the Inhabitants of the Town of Nantucket met in the American Legion Hall March 12, 1945 at 7:00 A.M.. ~.Cards of instructions to voterS, penalty cards, Voting lists and specimen ballots were posted outside the guard rail.'~ Instructions to voters and penalty cards'were posted in the booths. ~ ~e following Ballot Clerks were sworn in:-~ George P. Fee, Edward P. Tice, Ira W. Appleton, and William H Wesley A. Fordyce was sworn in as Warden. The official ballot~'in one package said to contain 1900 ballots were delivered to the Ballot Clerks and their receipt taken therefor. Barrett. Constable Lawrence ~. Mooney presented the Official War- rant of the meeting to Town Clerk Charles Clark Coffin. .Edwar~he ballot box was inspected by Lawrence F. Nooney, P. Tice,~ Wesley A. Fordyce, Herbert P. Smith and Charles Clark Coffin and Found to be empty. The register on the ballot box was set.at 0000, the ballot box locked and the keys turned over to Charles C. Chadwick, constable in charge. ~t 7:00 A.M. the To~n Clerk called order and read the Official Warrant. ~.Upon motion of Irving A. Soverino, duly seconded, it was Voted, that the polls close at 5:00 P.M., and that when the meeting adjourn it be until 7:80 P.M. Tuesday, March 1Jth~'at Dreamland Theatre. The Town Clerk then declared the polls open, and voting started at once. .At 4:55 P.M. the Town Clerk d~clared the polls would 'close 'in five minutes.'~ . At 5:00 P.M. the polls were declar. closed; People inside the guard rail were given'ten min- utes in which to complete and cast their ballots, j.i. The register on the ballot' box standing at 545, the ballot box was opened by Constable Charles C. Chadwick, and ~ the ballots removed. ~ The following Tellers were sworn in:- Frank ~[~[:. The ballot clerics at the gate and at the ballot box checked their lists and found 325 men and 247 women voted, a total of 572.
