November 7, 1944" Pursuant to warrant the'inhabitsnts of the To~m of Nantuc~'et met.in the American Legion Hall, Washington St.,~Tuesday November Vth, 1944 at 5:40 A.M. to select the Candidates for Election to the offices'appearing on the ballot. The cards of instructions to voters, penalty cards, voting lists and specimen ballots were posted outside the~guard rail. Instructions to voters and penalty cards were posted in the booths. The following ballot clerks were sworn in:~ Edward~P; Tic~, Ira W. Appleton, William H. Barrett, John'J. Driscoll. Wesley A. Fordyce was sworn in as Warden. 'The ballots,'in three packages, said to contain 2300 official ballots ~ere ~iven to the ballot clerks and their receipt taken therefor. The Ballot box'and emergency~ ballot box were then~ opened public inspection. They'were examined by Charles C..Chadwic~ Ira W. Appleton,~ John J. Driscoll~ Edward P.~Tice, Archibald ~artwright and-Charles Clark Coffin and found to be~empty. The ~eglster on the ballot box was set at 0000 both boxe~ locked and the keys thereof tdrned over to cicada,ties c. Chadwick, 90ns~ab!e in charge. Constable Lawrence F; Mo~ney presented the Wabrant for'the Presidential Election~ which was read by the Town Clerk. At 6:00 A.M. the polls were declared open. Voting started at once. At 10:00 A.M.' the registervon the ballot box s.tanding at 295 the box~ was~opened~ and the ballots removed tb th~ Emergenc~ ballot box by Charles C.°Chadwick~ Edward P~.Tic~ Wesley A.
