February 15, 1943. ~
pUrsuant to Warrant the Inhabitants of the Town met in the
American Legion Hall, F~bruary 15th, 1943 at V:00 A. M.
Cards of instructions to Vote'rs, penalty cards, voting lists,
and Specimen ballots were posted outside the guard rail.
Instructions to voters and penalty cards were posted in the ~ci
booths.
The following ballot Clerks were sworn in:- John J. Driscoll
Jr.; Edward P. Tice; Ira W. Appleton; and William H. Barrett.
The Official Ballots in four packages said to contain a total
of 2350 ballots were delivered to the ballot clerks and their
receipt taken therefore.
Constable Lawrence F. Mooney presented the official warrant
of the meeting to Town Clerk,'Charles Clark Coffin.
The ballot box and emergency ballot box were inspected by
Lawrence F. Mooney; Franklin S. Chadwick; Edward P. Tice;
Charles Clark Coffin; and Everett V. Lamb and found to be
empty. The register on the ballot box was set at 0000, the
ballot box and emergency ballot box were then locked and the
keys turned over to Franklin S. Chadwick, constable. At 7:00
A.M. the Town Clerk called order and read the official
warrant.
Upon motion of Irving A. Soverino it was voted that the polls
close at 5:00 P.M. and that when this meeting adjourn it ~e
until 7:30 P/M, Tuesday February 16th at Dreamland Theatre.
~ne Town Clerk then declared the poils open and voting started
at once.
At 8:40 A.M. Wesley A. Fordyce was sworn in as Warden..
At 4:55 P.M. the Town Clerk declared the polls would-close in
five minutes. At 5:00 P.M. the polls were declared closed.
People inside the rail were given ten minutes in which to
complete and cash their ballots.
The register on the ballot box standing at'614, the ballot
box was opened by constable Charles C. Chadwick, and the ballots
removed.
The following tellers were sworn in:- Charles w.'Ellis;"John
E. Moore Jr; Clinton H. Murray; Joseph S. Rezendes; Leroy H.
True; Harold W. Killen; Clarence H. Swift; Charles H. Blount;
Mulford A. Small; Lincoln J. Ceely; William H. Winslow;
Herbert L. Brown; Edward R. Terry; William E. Murphy; Charles
S. Glidden; William H. Hamblin; Herbert C. Wood; Sidney W.
Thurston; and Frank W. Ramsdell.
The absentee b~llots were then voted, there were 41 men and
31 women,.a total of V2~ giving the total of 686 on the ballot
box register.
The official ballots were sorted and counted and found to be
814 and the absentee ballots 72, a total of 686.
The b~llot clerks at the gate and at the ballot box checked
their lists and found 378 men and 308 women voted, a total of
686.
At 8:00 P.M. the canvass of the votes having been completed,
the following results were read by the Town Clerk:-
