The Board of Selectmen were cailed'to order with Members
Smith, Glidden, Hardy and Coleman present.
The Town Accountant presented Warrant #16 amounting to
$2,851.11. The same voted to be paid as read.
An application was received from the Nantucket Gas and
Electric Company to place two'poles on Somerset Road. It was
voted to take the regular course as prescribed by Law.
A communication'was received from Governor Saltonstall
requesting'the Board to cooperate with the Rationing Boar~'.
S ' A s~g~estion was received from Mrs. Eva E. Chase that the
/Junction at Orange Street and Scouset Road be Selected to be
named after Harrison Gorman.
A complaint was received from A. L. B. Fisher in regards
to dogs running at large and disturbing the neighbors.
The Girl Scouts requested that a plot of land be given
them for a Victory Garden. Voted to let them have a piece
of land at Our Island Home.
Mr. Walter Glidden was voted a renewal of the Junk Dealer's
License. ~-
Mr. Everett Folger was before the Board about the sale of
Alcoholic Beverages to Albert 01cott. He said 01cott received
the money from Etta Blanchard, an inmate' of Our Island Home.
Mrs. Lewis was before the Board relative to th~ parole of
her son George'Le~s at Barnstable. ~
Sewer commissioners Ring, Butler, and Deacon met with
~enn~th Harmnond'and the Board relativ~o the sewer connection
on Vestal'Street extension. The Board to spend $~50.00 for a
Catch Basin in the road, so placed that when the sewer is con-
nected with the property it can be used as a'Catch Basin for
surface water. The Sewer Commissioners also requeS$ funds for
the repairing of the sewer pumping station building.

It~was recommended t~at they bring in an estimate at,the next
meeting at which time the'Board w~uld request the Finance~ Comm.
to meet ~nd make a transfer to cover this work, and also the
installation of'the Catch Basin.
Mr. Glidden requested that the bUshes hanging over the
Street'on the property at'the corner of Union and Weymouth St.
be taken care of. It was voted to refer the same to M~. Tice.
Walter Hatch was granted a beer, wine and bottled goods
license subject to A B C.

,hauling and replacing the 3 mile limit buoys. The Board
voted to f;ive the contract to _~r. Winslow to haul, repaint
and replace buoys for $)125.00.
An ac~cnowledgement was received from the Department of
the Interior,. Fish and Wild Life Division for our application
for flounder fry for the next year. They stated that the
same would be sent to us in February or April Ouring 1943.
An application for renewal of a~ alcoholic Beverage
License, inn Holder's License and Entertainment License for
the '~azw~!net Hotel was granted.
The application of i';!rs. S~san Burton for parole from the
House of Correct'~on was turned over to the Count?f Clerk.
The Board voted to use (~50.00 of the Polpis,Road money
~ppropriated at the annual Tovm ~deeting to match ~250.00 of
Chaoter 90 money for the same purpose.
'A comuunication was received from Paul Klingelfuss
stating that he was volunteering in the U. S. ~ ~

be willing to surrender the bathing beach lease. The matter

A request was received from Oliver C. Fisher requesting
that the contract between the Tovm of Nantucket and the
Nantucket Gas & Electric Company be published in ~'~._~ .... .~,~.~rror'.

questing the Selectmen take up the matter of adjustment of
the bill for Street Lighting for' the Tovrn '.'.wh&n in darkness
for several nights.

It was voted to'meet' with. Mr.' Mather Saturday May 2,to discus~
the whole situation.
An agreement between th.e Town and Nantucket Hospital for
the care of needy patients was signed by the Board.
The monthly report 'of Old Age Assistance Board and the
· ' v~d~'
aid to Dependent Children was recei . and the monthly report
from the Welfare Department.
An application was received from Mr'. Frank Worth stating
that in 'the event of a vacancy in the orfice of Town and County
Treasurer, he would like to be considered an applicant.
An application from the Nantucket Gas & Electric company
for two pole locations on the Somerset Road was granted.
A communication was received from Ralph H. Osborn, Dir.
of Div. of Marine Fisheries stating that llO0 short lobsters
have been released in the.Nantucket Harbor. The Board voted
to declare the waters inside a line drawn from the shore end
of the Eastern Jetties to Brant Point Light as a breeding area
enclosed as a Lobster trap. Voted to send a letter of
appreciation to the Depart,r~nt.
Elmore Taylor was granted permission to erect a staging
on the building at 8 Fair Street.
A report from Gardner Russell in the case of Marcus Rams-
del! Versus Selectmen of Nantucket was read as also the find-
ings of the Court as follows:'

-This' cause came on to be heard upon the return of an
order of notice to show cause why the petition should not be
granted, and it appearing to the court thst after service of
the process upon the respondents the petitioner filed a discon-
tinuance of the' petition, it is ORDERED that costs be awarded
to the respondents, taxed by the clerk in the sum of'six
dollars and twenty-five cents, ($6.25).
