HomeMy WebLinkAbout1942-03-19 The Meeting was called to order by the Chairman with all I¥~ember s present. : The'Tovm Accountant presented the Warrant #!1 amounting to ~;5150.1~, the same was voted to be paid as read. A co~aunication was received from ~r. Elias J. Lyons stating that the toilets at the Observation Post were in an unsanitary condition, and the sanitary powder was all used up. Windows needed paint and putty· It was voted to have Er. Putrick paint the Observation Tower with pearl gray with t~o coats of paint as per enclosed sample. It was voted to request ~r. Burchell to take care of the toilets periodically as needed. A communication was received from the'Commodities Dept. stating that there was a surplus of clothing, and that agents - should make a requisition and expand the list of welfare and borderlin~ cases. A letter of appreciation was rece~.ved from Mr. Edward ~elden for his appointment as Caretaker of the Tovm D~n~p. The Rationing Board was given permission to use the Selectmen's Room for their office during the'day. A letter of appreciation was received from Evelyn ~.yser for her appointment as Secretary of the Information BureaU. The rent of ~40.00 was received from the Federal Gov't. for the Selective Service office. A communication was received from George A. Lewis relative to his release from Barnstable HoUse of Correction. It was voted that a notice should be sent to him that he should have his prospective employer write a letter to the Board informing them that he was going to give said Lewis employment. !'~eeting Warrant #11 Observa- tion Tower. Lebaron Ray, Sec'y. of the Soldier's Relief for the month of January and February. An application was received from irving E. Ssndsbury to erect a one car garage on Pine Street. 'The sa~e was referred to the Fire Chief. It was voted to request l~r. Jones to have the sewer ~.::~'~; removed to the Sanford House. George ~. Poland and the Town Counsel met with the Board relative to the appointment of the dispenser of Welfare in the connection of the matter of Civil Service. Voted to notify the Tov~ Accountant the~'hhebk of John Burton as Janitor be made in the n~ue of Clyde Burton his son, and that the son fill his father's position while he is away from the Island. A com~nunicati0n was received from }.{r. Frederick Hill rela- tive to Hospitalization for the daughter of John Beamish, a Spanish War Veteran. This matter was turned over to ~gr. Smith for further investigation. The Auditor's report of the accounts of the Town Treasurer from June 1st to ~arch 1st was received and placed on file. ~' Voted that ~r.
