members present.
The~ Totem Accountant presented Warrant #9 amounting to
~;6,80~.V4. The seine was voted to .be pa~d as read.
A letter of appreciation was received from ~r. Frank Worthas
Investigator and V!ork Relief Secretary of the Public Welfare
Dept.
A letter was received' from the Dept. of Public Health rela-
tive to a prospective site for the new police station.
A letter of appreciation was received from Edward Roy for
his appointment as Harbor ~'~aster.
A letter was received from V~a. C. Brock relative to the
disreputable condition of the dwelling, at lB ~ilk Street, and
suggesting that the v.dndov~s shoul~ be barred up for the safety
of the chilSren and the adjoining property ovmers. It was vo-
ted to turn the com~uunication over to the Fire Chief.
A letter of thanks was received from' Jennie L. Oahoon for
her appointment as Matron of the Toym Comfort Station
A telegram was received from Gardner Russell inquiring
about the sending of a letter to the summer people in the form
of a questionaire. It was voted to meet with the Publicity
Committee Tuesday evening.
A co~aunication was received from John W. Las'sell relative
to the Air-port and Airplane Markers. He informed the Board
that a telegram was received from Mr. Parker Gray. It was
voted to request Parker Gray to dismantle the plane on the
Nobadeer field.
A communication was received from ~,~r. Sanguinetti giving
his findings in the case of George Lewis seeking a parole.
According to his findings a parole can be given at ~ny time that
the Board is so inclined.

The lease for the American Legion Hall was received from
the Town Counsel and the Board si~ed the same.
Charles P. Cah0on was appointed Life Guard of the Sconset
Beach.
Thos. Rupert Warren was appointed Dog Officer
APplications were filed for the position of Secretary of
the Information Bureau by Jean Garnett~ Ruth W. Jones, end
Evelyn Huyser. The same was filed until after the organization
of the Publicity Commm ~ee.
~-r. Leroy True was present in regards to the collection of
garbage at k~onomoy, and made some corn_merit on the reporting of
his last visit to the Board. Mr. B~zrchell, the garbage collec-
tor was present, and after some discussion it was voted.that
the petition of the '.~ ~ ~ .
~onomo~ Assoc be tabled for two weeks giv-
ing i'.~r. True an opportunity to contact them and submit the new
prices of the Collector.

asked that in the event of the change~ of the Police Dept.I from
its present offices ths. t one of these ~offices be assigned to her.
Her report was received and placed on file, showing 200 calls
and ~9.50 collected in fees for January. For February 150 calls
were reporbed and $4.00 collected. She reported eight classes
of Junior Firs~t Aid.
' A note of appreciation was received from John B. Burton for
his appointment.

Nr. !',~.artindale Coffin, Sconoet/was present, and was warned
about the proper disposal of the Sconset garbage.
~;~r. Burchell, Keeper of Our island Home, was present and
reoj~ested green paint for beds, dust paint for the floors, 6
mattresses and a wringer for the washing machine, and a new
night nurse.
~,~r. John C. Ring was present and was voted road work as of
the armual town meeting. The Board signed a contract~vM_th I~r.
Ring for this work.
'A letter of thanks was ~received 'from I.~r. Charles Blount
as for his appoint~uent of W.P.A. Co-ordim~tor.
~'It was voted that the Board visit Our Island Home Friday
afternoon at 1: P.~;~.
It was voted to holSJ a Welfare ~,!eetinff at V:30 P.H. at the
Welfare Office.
· ~,~.r. Lebaron Ray, Secretary of Soldier's Relief w.a_s present.
A letter was read from the State Executive relative to the ~!c-
Clean case stating that the Board was very generous to ~.:!r. ~,~c-
Clean. It was voted that ~.r. Ray show this letter to ~r. ~.~cClear
'it was voted to have i,~,r. Tice find five days or its equiva-
lent of work for' Charles Burton.
Permission was £~ven to the Secretary of the Soldier's
Relief to have stationery provided for that Department. ~'
~r. Lawrence B. ,~vmmu-,nos met with the Board and went into
detail as to the apathy of the people of Nantucket towards the
protection of Nantucket, and also the method in which the obser-
vs. tion tower was being run.
The Board voted to approve the opening of a new case,
namely Charles Handy.

A communi4ati0n was~received from the Civil Aeronautics
Commission stating that the Airplane of the Mayflower Lines
should be dismantled. The 'com~mi6ation received stated that
invit&tions for bids for the Construction of the Nantucket
Airport would'be issued on or about tfarch l~th.
~:~,r. Hall of C. F. Wing & Company auoted a price of
~;16.95 per mattress for Our Island Home. It v;as voted,~that
eight be purchased at once.

Huram ~acy was re-appointed as Special Police to serve
without pay.
Approval was received from the .Dept. of Conservation,
Division of Forestry, for the appointment of Frank B. Gardner
proposed l~oth Supt.
A coramunication was received from the Fire Chief relative
to the Newbold Property on ~ilk Street stating that he had
inspected same and found no windows where people could gain
adm~_ttance. He stated that this was work for the Police
Department to check on breaking windows, etc.
The Board voted to set the increase population the same
as for 1941 -- $,401.
Reports were received, read, and placed on file from
the Fire Chief, Sec~y. ~of Aiding Dependent Children and
~. P. A. Coordinator.
It was voted to request the Coordinator to have Nain St.
cobbles laid as expedient as possible.
The Board of Selectmen expressed their appreciation to
~r. Tirrell for many['years as Town and County Treasurer.
I.,~iss Evelyn Huyser was elected fo~ the position~as
Secretary of the Info_~_..ation Bureau, her~duties to beg~n
~..~arch 1G.
It was voted to put the Exercises for ~emorial Day in
charge of the GAR assisted by the United spanish War Veterans
and American Legion.
The Board expresses their wish that everyone who possibly
can should have a Victory Garden and p~gs, ~d any other com-
modities that v~ill assist their general living conditions in
the coming year.

The Board voted their approval for Our Island Home
to have a garden and pigs, and voted to ask ~Ir. Burchell for
a list of things needed for this.
The Board recommended that the ChS~Uber of Commerce set
up a ~ard~n Fund for the purDose of aiding persons to pur-
chase seed and fertilizer for gardens.
The Board and ~r. Pease contributed towards this fund.
Judge Poland recormmended that George Lewis be released
on probation from the Barnstable House of Correction, to
save money~ for the Term in helping to support his family.
The Board expressed their opinion that if said Lewis has em-
ployment on being released, they should be glad to again con-
sider the case.
It was voted to drop a note of appreciation to Charles
Burton, Janitor of the Sanford House, for ~_ms good work there.
Judge Poland suggested also we check o~ the Police Dept.
for the illegal selling of liquor. This had already been
attended to.
