However, the'FinanCe' Co~ittee is .burdened with going over the town's expenses,' assigning reasoflable amounts of' money 'for 'the town to spend in'the' course' of a year,1 and we feel very grateful to the Finance Co~ittee ~for ~ving reco~ended some of the fairly~impo~tant items. ~I think I speak now for the Committee, and vla,' a~e'p~fectly willing to abide by their -~udg- merit at this time ..... ~:. D~. ~ngdon: "Mr~ Hardy,'I can j~t simply say that if you had been at the hearin~ before ~the :Fin~ce ~o~ittee you would have knoE the~e w~e certain things asked f o~~ the public schools, and in considering these things it was brou~t up before the aud- ience as to which would be the most favorable to do'this year, and they decided it wouldn't be the kindergarten school. We did app- ropriate~at'this'timer~$5009~'for.~'pre-schooiLthat'ls'carriedo.~ on in,town at the p~esent~time;~'~There is also'a.very.ftne kindbrgart&n doing very good ~ork asa.far as kindergarten work- goes. There has been somewhat .of~a question~ with the increas- ing expenses in towns~and cities~recently whether they could ha~e kindergartens;and ke&p them up, and there are more towns that: have given up kindergartens.,~but possibly~there'are:others.that have t~ken them on. ~I know of two certain towns~that have done away with kindergartens on account of increased expenses. ~ll towns are having increasing debts and rising tax rates. That ?was,the reason I think the Committee did not recommend it. som~ ,of the~members here can speak. After we had considered the mather and talked with certain members of the schools,'it was decided that'other things were more important than~the kindergarten school. Any other phase you would like, Mr. Hardy??: ', ' .....
