HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959-12-23Selectmens 'Meeting '23 Dec' 1959. The'meeting came to order at 7.30 ~M all members 'of the'Board being present except Ch. Pease, Mr. Killen served ,as Ch. Pro Tern. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Warrant No. 51, totalling $9,$64.35 was ,presented.by Town Acct. -Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Mr. Rlwyn Francis, Shellfish Warden ~as present and requested that 'the Board close the area inshore from a line from Sbimmo pt' so called to Abrams point to the taking of scallop: by any means, stated that the area had a large amount of excellent seed and that it should not be disturbed. On motion made and seconded it was so Voted. A copy of the extimate of the cost of fire protection, was sub- mitred by the Wannacomet Water Co. covering the 1960 year and placed on file. It was voted at the request of the Town Acct. and the Chief of the Fire Dept. to request the Finance Committee to make the following transfers from the Reserve Acct.: Pire Dept. 1470.0. ~ Town Bldg. $200.00. The Board discussed the matter of a polling place and imasmuch as we had been'advised by the Legion that they were amking plans to renovate their building it was voted to have the Town Clerk a~vise them that we would renew our contract with them for the use of the bldg. for 1960 provided they would provide at no cost to us, quarters satisfactory to us for use for polling etc. during the period their building is not available. A letter was received frgm the Sewer Commission advising that due to the holidays etc they were unable to meet with us at' this time, and filed. A letter was received from' Miss Esther Gibbs setting out her thoughts on the matter the Board discussed as to the tonw purchasing the former Crosby Mem. bldg for town use, and placed on file. A letter was received from the Nant. Cottage Hosp. advising that they had discovered:that their existing fence encroached on the town layout of S. 'Prospect st. and requesting that it be allowed to ramian, the Hosp. making no claim to said land. Voted to have the county clerk furnish us tiwh plan showing encroachment with the thought that for the record we should execute some type of nominal leasw witch the Hosp. so that this would be a matter of record. A lette~ was reBceived from Dr.' Kelly of the Barnstabel County Hosp. advising that the new contract we-were negotiating woul~ save us an estimated 14,000 per year, and placed on file. On motion made- and seconded it was voted that the War~ant for the Annual To~m meeting be opened tSis date and that same may close on January 18th 1960. The Board approved the,political calander as submitted ~y the Town Clerk for~our approval, and same was.placed on file. Sadi 'political.calander calls for the town election to be held on Monday March 7th and the town meeting on Tuesday the 8th. Bids were received and opened on the collecting ~f~rubbish at various town and county bldgs for 1960 as follows: Nathan Thurston $267.00; Myles Reis $318.50; Albert C. Johnsen Sr. $222.50. On motion made and seconded it was voted that same be awarded to the lowest bidder, Albert C. Johnsen, Sr. Selectmens Meeting 23. Dec. ~1959 ' ' Page 2. ',~, -'~,!
