HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959-11-18selec~mens Meeting 18 Nov. 1959 The meeting, came 'to order at 7.30 PM all members being present. ~ Warrant No. 46 totail~ng $20,593.97 was presented by Town Acct. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Mr. Raymond Foulkrod and Mr. Arthur Robertson of the salary study committee were present and presented their report to the board~and outlined their reasonings etc. it was voted extend this committee a vote of thanks for their efforts' on this project. :~, . The following applications for renewal of alcoholic beverage lic- enses were received and voted to take the course prescribed ~by law: Green Coffee Pot Inc.;, James T. Worth Inc. and Harold and Flemena Ryder. A ~orm notice was received' from the Dept% of Public wokks'advising that they had approved work done by us on the maintainance of the state hi. ghway. Rep. Mooney wrote advising that the last date for filing bills in the legislature was Dec. 2nd and filed. A letter was received from th~ Town counsel Roy B. Sanguinetti, in~ reply to our inquiry as to what the Board' could do to prevent ,persons from driving across the triangular area at .the milestone set off as,a memorial, Town counsel advised that the law empowered towns to take land for the purDoses~ . of'setting up memorials and after same had been done pro- vided penalties for-anyone defacing same etc. The. Board disc cussed this matter and as it appeared that the town meeting~ would.have to vote~ on this matter it was felt that we should delay any affirmative action until we had a reply from the ~ state as to their plans for a rotary traffic at the area. Notices were received from the Secy. of State advisng of the for- mation of two corporations under Ch. 180 of the Gen. Laws, namely Nobadeer Flying Associates,-Ins'. and the Nantucket Garden Club and listing their incorporators, the Board app-~ same and signed the necessary statemehts as to the character of the incorporators_. Notice was .received from the V.F.W..advising that their rent was being increased to $600.00 per year, same was filed for later action by town meeting. A check for $500.00 was received from the Div. of Marine Fisheries to be used for propogation of shellfish etc. The Board discussed the report 'of the So called Chinlund Committee with reference to the Boat line and it was suggested that we try to'set up an informal talk with members of this committe~e to discuss this problem. , , It was repot'led that the Steamship Authority-could not come to Nantucket for a meeting in November but that they were ex- tending the Board an invitation to meet'~at Boston with them on ihe 24th of Nov. The Board discussed .this matter at'length and it was~voted to-advise Mgr. Look that what we had in mind was a meeting in each community where citizens could air thei: views etc. A letter of resignation was received from Mr.'Joh~ L. Hardy from the Nant. Silva for appointment',to the ,Airport, Commission, ,,~long,with Mr. Congdons'resignation from the,Finance Committe and'it was .voted that Mr.~ Silva be appointed to fill the un- ,, expired term of Mr. Marcel Gouin and Mr. Gongdon to fill the unexpired term of Mr., Hardy. , ~,~ It was voted to authorize the Boy Scouts to use the Upst'airs rooms in the Sanford House as their quarters there being no ob- jection to this use by the state buil~ding inspector. There being no further business the Board went into executive · session and a~d~journed at 10 PM ..... Executive session: Voted to have rose bush'es at Kir'tley property quince s~reet cut back and the-turf in sidewalk cleaned off.
