The meeting came 'to order at 7.30 PM all members 'of the Board

'Warrant No.~43,' t0t'~lli~g $23,833.64 was presented by Town Acct. -Barrett and checked .and approved ,by the Board. '~
Minutes of the' previous meeting were read and approved.
A letter was received from Mr.' Morris Phinney~thanking the Board
for the work done on Tuckernuck to eliminate 'mosquitoes
and other pests_ and filed. ,' .,.
A letter Was receieved from Rep. ~4ooney urging that the Board
take 'some positive action with reference to having the
state bulkhead the foreshore at the Childrens Beach, no
action was taken at this .time on this matter.
A letter was received from a Mrs R. H. Canaday Jr.stating how
nice the childrens beach was. and requesting that the beach
be, maintained.
A letter was received fro~ the Harry Frost Co. Adv. requesting
consideration of their handling the towns publicity this
_?year,stating that they had so handled it in other years.
Same was referred to the Publicity Committee for attention.
A letter was received from Chief Bartlett advising that he had
, some figures on costs'of new equipment and it was left that
we would discuss same with-him next week when he meet~ith-
us'to discuss his budget.
The Board voted to approved the Regulations for, the taking~of
, Scallops for Commercial Use as printed a copy of which is
attached hereto and made a part of this record.
The Board was-in~receipt of the resignation of M.E.~A. Gouin
from the Airport Commission and same was voted accepted,
and that Mr. Gouin be sent a letter of thanks for his
'service on this Commission.
There being no further business the Board went" into executive
session to discuss welfare matters and adj. at 9.50 PM.
Welfare:-Inquiry of Earl' Mayo for admission,of 'wife to I~$1and
Home discussed,'~no acton-necessary.
Voted write Mr.John L. Hardy as tO his intentions on the airport
Commission as it appears he will be off island winters when
needed on this committee.
Felt that we should set up a meeting*for the discussion 6f'the
Town and County Office, Bldg.

SHELLFISH REGULATIONS
COMMERCIAL USE i'
For the Town of Nantucket, adopted by the Selectmen under
authority delegated by t h e Annual Town Meeting.
Section 1. No person shall
~ake from the waters of Nantuck-
et, Clams, Quahogs, Oysters, Eels,
or Scallops, without a permit is-
sued by the Select, hen as Public
Welfare may require. Whoever
.shall qmke from · the waters of
Nantucket, Clams, Quahogs, Oys-
rets, Eels or Scallops without a
permit issued by ,the Selectmen,
or after said permit has been
revoked by the Selectmen, or who-
ever for th e purpose of procur-
ing a license falsely makes any
represent~tion o r statement re-
quired shall be punished by a fine
of fifty ($50.00) dollars for each
offense.
Sect/on 2. The Selectmen'shall
issue permits as direeted in Ar-
ticle 130 of .the General Laws of
~ h e Commonwealth of Massachu~
~etts. :
Section 3A. T h e Selechnen
shall allow ,the taking of legal
scallops for commercial purposes
during the period from November
1st to lgarch 31st, inclusive.
Section 3B. Scallops shall b e
~aken by hand only for family~
use and not over one bushel per~
person per week, and not for com-'
inertial purposes during the month'
of October.
Section 3C. The use of dredges l
between the hours of Sunset and
Sunrise, and on Sunday, is pro-
hibited during the legal scallop
season, nor shall scallops be taken
on Sunday by hand for commer-
cial purposes. '
Section 3D. No scallops shall
be ~mken under this permit unless
~hey shall have a well defined
raised annual growth line, as pro-
vided by Section 70 of Chapter
130 of the General Laws, Anno-
Section 4. The use of ~w'o or
more dredges connected together
by an iron bar or any similar de-
vice i.s prohibited. N o dredge or
dredges of greater width than
~'wenty-eight inches across the
mouth will be permitted. Power
hoisting of dredges is authorized
p~vided no dredge is more than
t~venty-.~ght inches wide, seven
rings deep, the bar on dredge is
not over eighteen mesh long and
the complete dredge does not ex-
ceed fifty lbs. in weight.
Section 5. Not over four s~and-
ard bags (provided by the Town)
of scallops shall be taken per man
per day, including shells, and not
over eight bags of scallops in-
eluding shells shall be ~aken per
,boat per day. This limit of four
and eight shall b e interpreted as
including scallops taken under this
commercial permit and any family
permit. All bags shall be tied se-
curely in such manner that the
.top is completely closed.
Section 6. No clams, quahogs,
oysters, or scallops shall be taken
b y hand o r otherwise from such
seed areas as are now se~ off or
closed by action of the Selectmeh
or from such areas as may be set
off or closed by'the Selectmen
during t h e period these regulat-
ions remain in force. Clams must
measure 2% inches or more and
quahogs must measure 2 inches or
more.
Section 7A. A first violation of
any of the sections two to six in-
elusive shall be punishable by re-
vocation of license f o r not more
than thirgy (30) days from the
date of .the Board's action revok-
ing said license. If said penalty
.should carry over the end of the
season,, the balance of the penalty
remaining shall be carried over
and be effective in the next
~callop season.
Section 7B. A second violation
of any of the sections taro to six
inclusive shall b e punishable b y
wevocation of license for one year
from the date of the Board's ac-
.tion revoking said license.
Section · 8. The fee for license
to operate under the above regu-
lations shall be $5.00. ·
Section 9. As may seem neces-
sary, and a~ any ~ime, %he above
regulations may b e altered, or
new regulations put in force by
the Selectmen.
