The meeting came to order at 8PM all members of the Board being
present, except Mr. Meilbye_. _ , ,
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Warrant No. 34 totalling $2g,844.78 was presented by Town Acct.
Barrett and checked and approved by the Board.
Mr. Russell Pope of the Tree Commission'was presente and reported
: that the Petumenous tree had been removed down to the stump
the stump stripped of bark and sprayed, stated that a small
hole had been punched in the sidewalk during the operation
that the Supt. of streets had.been requested to repair same
and had advised that it was up to the tree commission.
Voted to request the Supt.'of streets to have same repaired.
Mr. Pope also asked if we would determine' whether or not
the spray material had been received for the Sconeet Road
to.Spray the shoulders for poisen ivy and rag week. Voted
to write the Supt. of streetson this matter.
bit. John Golden~Mr&,P~rley were present and'gave their.viewsf
of the McClusky'incident of last week, Mr. Golden stated
that at no time did he as Clerk of the Information Bureau
advise the McCluscies, that the information he gav~ them
was from the Chamber of Commerce and that .his advice had
been that it was his understanding that a reservation was
a contract.~ . ,
Mrs Parley read a statement outlin~ng~her side of the dccura:
Mxz and the matter was filed.
Mr. Robert Hardy spoke commenting on our'failure to accept his
suggestion made some months ago to appoint a membership in
the so-called harmony committee~and stated he felt he was
now vindicated in the failure of the senate to pass the
~repeal of the N. Bedford ammendment. It was commented on
by the Board that this very committee was in part responsibl{
for the failue6 of this bill to pass.
Mr. William Leys'of Newport R.I. was present and presented a
' proclamation from the Council of the~city of Newport signed
~by the Mayor and Clerk congratulating Nantucket on its-300th
anniversary.- _

It was voted to a~z~z~se ~mz bids for the furbishing of feel oil
to town and county bldgs same to be in the hands of the
Board by 11 ~ept. 1959. .~
A letter was received from P!easure:I~land, Mr. Hawkes advising:~
.that the Whale they were giving to Nantucket to be used as
a permanent pass to Pleasure Island by resident of Nantucket
would be brought back to the Island by Mr. and Mrs Peter
Morton.
The Siasconset Casino Asso. was granted a permit for a member,
guest dance on Monday Sept. 7th to run to 2AM.
A letter was received from Mr. John Golden, resigning from his
position of Chief~Clerk at the Information Bureau effective
1 0ct.~1959, Voted accepted and filed.
Pole locations on Candle street were recieved, and vote~ approved.
same being merely to complete the Tel and Tel and Gas & Elec.
Co's reoords.
There being no further business the Board went into executive
session and ajf. at 10.15 PM.

Gommittee to rejec~ the maps as prin~ed by the Town Grief on a
bid of a few weeks ago. Voted ~o have a special meeging wi~h the
~ublic Relations Committee on Tues 1 Sept. at 4PM to disucss this
matter. - ~ ~
