The meeting came,to order at 8PM Ch. Pease being absent Mr;
Killen served as Ch. Pro Tem, all other members of the Boar(
were present.
Warrant No.33 totalling' $28,072.35 was presented by Town Acct.
Barrett and checked and approved by the Board.
Minutes of'the previous meetin~ were read and approved.
A Dr. and Mrs McClusky were present and stated that they had
a reservation at the Nantucket House on N. Water St. from
which they had moved afater five days because of noise
and that it was demanded that they pay the full balance
accodrlng_to the reservation. Stated they had gone to the
information bureau and was told by Mr. Golden that this
was the policy on the island, stated they were forced to
sign a paper agreeing to pay the balance if the room was
'not rented before their baggage would be released.'It was
voted to write a letter to the information bureau advising
that the Board-did not feel it was the proper policy for
the information bureau to advise one way or the other on
matters of this nature.'
Members of ~he Madaket Conservation Association were present
and discussed with the Board matters relative to the pre-
servation of the dunes, the Board felt that they should
have'an article inserted in the annual warrant calling for
an appropriation to finance the erection and maintenance
of snow fence etc. The matter of signs prohibiting or
setting out where entrance and exits on the beach wo~ld
be allowed was discussed and it was voted to have signs
printed and'erected and to have the entrance and exit unto
the beach at Smiths Point at the next entrance west from
what ~.s called.the Key post. .~
Bids on the CD pumps and misc equipment at the fire station
were received as follows:
John Walsh everything $127.83; ISCO pump $61.48 Misc. $12.53
Manuel Dias~$49.95 for both pumps.
John H. Bartlett, quidnet pump $50.00 iSCO pump $25.00
both pumps $80.00. ',
Voted that the ISO0 pump go to John Walsh'at 61.48 along
with the Misc junk at $12.53 and that the Quidneypump,
'go to John It. Bartlett at $50.00
Chief Bartlett wrote advising that the Insurance rating bureau,
had advised that the ladders'on the ladder truck were to
old for, approval and suggested that'we have a joint meeting
with the Finance Committee; ,voted to set same up for 16 Se
and to write'the_Finance Committee.
A letter Was received from Dist. Highway Eng. Sellew adivisng
_ that he was sending 50,gal of spaay material to Mr. Jaeckle
'for spraying the~state highway for poisen ivy and ragweed.~
Notice was received that a group from Fairhaven were coming to
the Island on Sunday the 23rd and requesting that the same
arrangements be made relative to the planting of a tree
as had been previously set up.
A request for a brighter street light at the rear of Aliens
Lobster grille was received from Hilda Allen and ~oted
approved. , ~
A letter was received from the DP health advising that they
have tests made of the watter at the childrens beach and.
advise.

Coast Guard with the change that the:,color~of the buoys
"'should be Orange and White rather than red~'and yellow.·
'A request for a stop Sign at Indian Avenue 'a~d Sherburne road
,was received, after discussion it was felt that a center
line and having brush cut at,the corner might be more','
.practical} it'was voted to request that the Chief of Police
and Supt. of streets look'at the area.~ J ~1
The matter ofla sidewalk on Main street was referred to 'the
Supt. of streets for attention.
Ther~.S. Coast Guard o~fice in Boston wrote in reply to our
inquirt advising that according to their records,the ,-,
~ SS Nantucket was a safe vessel for the purpose for_which
she was being used and stated that the Providence office
had jurisdiction over this matter and that further reqeusts
should be'made to them. Voted to,write the providence~offim
the same inquiry as sent to Boston. , _
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at i0 PM.
