The meeting came to order at 8PM all members Of the B0ard~ being
present,
Warrant No'. 32 totalling $29,799.47 was Presented by Town Acct.
Barrett and checked and approved by the Board.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Mr. wm. Burdick Sr. was present and again requested he be re-
considered for the street sweeping job, matter was taken
under advisement.
'Mr. R. Pope, Mr."01derich,"and Mr. Terry of the Tree Commission
were present .and discussed with the Board matters relating
to the tree commission and insecp pest control.~Advised
the Board that the commission'had voted to take down the
dutch elm invested tree in the Petumenous yard with town
funds and that they had an authorization from Mr. Petumenous
to enter on his property to do so. The Board voted to go
on record as being in favor of this procedure.
Mr. Pope reported on the infestation of leaf roller and
tussock month and advised that they would have an article'
in the annual warrant to cover spray work to control same
and that state men would assist in the matter and determine
the date etc.
Also discussed was the use of equipment Mr. Pope .pointing
out for the record that Mr. Cluett was using his own truck
for his own convenience and was not being paid for same
other than the commission providing gas.
The Board met with Mr. Foulkrod, Fir. Hardy and Mr. Robertson
of the salary study committee and went over some of the
problems env~lved in this matter.
Mr. Blw~n Frances Shellfish warden was p~esent'and went over
with the Board a long letter from Mr. Wilbour of the Div.
of Marine Fisheries. Fir. ~ rancis suggested that we might

· be able~eOdtrade~ Oyse~er seed from Sesachacha pond for -
Quahog ~n a bushel for bushell basis, or,that failing
this we could sell Oyster seed from aprox 10.00 'per l)ushel.'
Board' felt this was OK. It was voted to authorize the warder
to go forward with whatever arrangements' he could make with
reference to ob ain{ng,and planting Quahog seed. Mr. Franci~
also suggested that he was looking into_another less expensi'
and possible more practical manner of catching oyster spat,~
and that he would advise later on this.
Bids were received and opened on 2½" fire hose as follows:
Amer Fire Equip Co. $1.28 per ft; Chls Clougherty Co.
1.28 pe.r ft and 1.55 per ft. After discussion with the
'Fire Chief it was voted to purchase the $1.55 per ft hose
to the amount appropriated for same.
Chief Bartlett re~0rted that he had no further satisfactory answe
to the matter of the ladder truck brakes, stated he had
contacted a Boston firm who stated they might be ,able to
work outz something but that the estimated cost was,given as
2500.00.
Chief Bartlett was authorized to advertise for bids for the two
CD pumps to be bid seperatly and alos'to adv~. for misc.
Junk materials bids to be returnable to the Board.
Civil Service forms for two office employees at the Dist. Attys
office at New Bedford were received and signed and forward
to the county personnel board.
A let~_ was received from the Sewer Commission advising ,that
· Y had spent~to datea'total of 90,392.71 and estimated
an additional 2500.00 to complete the force main project.

The Board was in receiPt of a letter advising .that the ~nnual
county hearing would be held on Fri the 21st at 9.30 ;~M.
The Fairhaven'selectmen wrote ~ advising that their pa'rty wouid
be doming to Nantucfket on Sunday the 23rd~and:requesting
the same arrangements for tree planting ceremoney as pre-
~ viously set up.. '
A letter was received from the Steamship 'authority acknowledging
our'letter and advising that same was ye,lng presented to
the next meeting of the authority.
Bids on printing of maps for the public relations committee were
received as follows: Inq. & Mirror 25,000~large,148.00
5,000 small 98.00; Town Citer 209.i5 for 25,000 large and
5,000 small, voted awarded lowest bidder the Town Crier.
The Navy Wives club was granted a permit for a block'dance on
5 Sept. on lower Pearl st.
A letter'-was received from the towS'counsel'relative to the
jetties beech lease advising that he felt we could write
a leastw.for,five~years with an option for/3 more at terms'~
for the option to be agreed on. It was voted-to approve
a~lease.for .five years to Sidney and Ann Killen at 3,000
per year with an option for three more years at terms to
be agreed upon by the parties and that the matter be referre,
' ~to the Town counsel to dr~,N up~ same.
Voted to ask-the tree commission is something could be done to
trim tz tees' around street lights so not to obstruct same.
The Board then went into exe Uti ed session-to-discuss Welfare
matters and adj. at l0 15 PM,
Welfare: Island Home: Mr. Hall board increased to 69.00 ~e~ week.
' Mr. Beamish board increased to 150.00 on'
30 day months and 155.00 on 31 day months
he now getting an increas_ed in his monthly
checks from the Vets dept~ based on our
,~ charges of $5.00 per day.
Voted to request ~a~report from the S~Upt. ~of sireets on~ our letter
to him on Upper Mill St.
