The meetlng'came to Order at 8PM all members of the Board being
present
Warrant No. 23, totalling $$4',833.10 was presented by Town Acct.
, Barrett and checked and approved by the Board.
Minutes of the previous meeting'were read and approved.
Mr. John Golden of the Chamber of Commerce and Mr. John* Fee, Mgr~f'
of the local A & P were present and requested authorization
for a WHDH broadcasting vehicle to park in front'of the A&P
during broadcast periods from 29 June thru 3 July 1959, this
vehicle would broadcast daily from aprox 10/bM to 12 Noon.
Same was voted approved.
Mr. Golden representing the 300th, Chamber of Commerce and Publ
relations committees also spoke in favor of the Board
setting off the area on Main street Sq. from Orange to
the Murray Clothing shop as a'parking area for horse drawn
car~riages and same was voted approved.
Mr~, Peter Gomes Harbor master Was present and discussed the mattel
of getting various buoys ready and set' and also asked the
~ Board what the procedure was as regards yacht garbage, it
was voted on the latter that the official collector of
Myles Reis should collect the yacht and Island Home garbage
at no cost to the town and to so advise.
The 300th Committee for the Naval Facility was granted a permit
for a street dance at the Jetties Beach parking .area on
J.uly 7th, the Navy to police andclean up the area.
~e use of the Childrens Beach for the 300th:Clambake of 2 July
was voted approved.~ '
Bids were re'ceived as follows on the printing of,1600 programs
for the Symphony concert;
Town Crier 29.50 Inq. & Mirror $44.90 same Was voted
" 'mwared the lowest bidder the Town Crier°
Mr. Rihhard Porter Supt. of Schools wrote if the Board Would have
any objection to the driving of a well and theinstallation
of pumping equipment at the High School Athletic field to
be used for watering etc. labor to be contributed. Same was.·
'approved with the suggestion tbat'hemight contact the Sewer~
Dept. as regards purchasing some of the pumps they have when
~they are done with them.-
The following Licenses-and permits were granted:
Aliens Lobster Grille, recorded music entertainment weekdayJ
Boat House recorded music and piano weekdays; Greecn Coffee
Pot Inc. 'recorded music, weekdays; Overlook Hotel Innholders
The Breakers Innholders; Knotty Pines, piano and recorded

Mr. Nathan Thurston was ,granted a common vici. s~ft drink and
Ice cream license at premises on Surf side road subject to
inspection when ready to open.
Letters were received from the ~them~um, The Pacific Bank and
the Historical Asso. relative to our inquiry as to the town,
obtaining a portion of the grounds of the Atheneum for an
off the street parking area and advising that ,they had plans
to cony'err same to a garden park. Voted to advise thai'the
Board.were in accord ~ith such a developemt and offer our

A letter[was received from the Madaket Conservation Asso requesti~
the Board action and signs on various matters reltive tb the
preservation of the dunes and it was voted to ask their Ch.
Mr. Howard Bardsley to meet with us next week.
A letter was received from the Finance Committe advising that the
had organized with Ernest Whelden as Ch. Walter Knott as
Vice Ch, and Wm. B. H. Snow as Secy.
Mr. Frank Armstrong was granted'a permit for a dance' at legi6n
Hall on Sat. June 20th from 8 to 12 mldnite, gr. George
Rezendes to be Sp. Police..
Voted to advertise,for bids for supply'ing mi~k to Our Island Home
Mrs George DuBock was appointed Life ~uard at the FJancis St.
Beach the previous appointee not having written the Board
accepting this appointment,
The Board then went into executive~session and adj. at 10. 30 PM.
Executive Session:
The Board di'scuss~ed the matter'of the salary.'of Harbor Master
and felt that Mrs Blount widow of the former Harbor Master should
receive 5/12ths of the appropriation for this job. Mr. Meilbye
stated that he would explain this to Mr; Gomes.
Mr. Barrett stated that Wauwinet Road near the Sexton-farm and
Lower pleasant street near the James Allen property were
in need of cleaning of sand that had washed onto the road
same was voted referred to the Highway dept.
The matter of 'the Water'Fountain' on Lower main street was dis-
cussed and it was voted to determine if same could be put
back in ope'ration.
Voted to have~Mr.~Putterick construct a life guar~ stand for the
uge of the Town Guard at the Jetties.
