HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959-05-06Selectmens Meeting' 6 May 1959 The meeting came to order at.8;15 PM having be~n prec~eded by a County Commissioners meeting, all members of.the Board being present except Mr.'Pease, Mr. Meilbye served'as Ch. Pro Tern. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and ~pproved. Warrant No. 18, totalling $23,788'09 was presented by Town Acct. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Mr. Franklin of the Telephone Co. was present and requested approval to guy a pole on Beach street near the Whaling Museum and White properties, same being necessa'ry to hold additional installations being placed on this line, same~ was voted approved. Pole locations on Center street covering two poles opposite . Lily street were presented by the Tel and Tel and Nant. Gas and Blec. and voted approved no hearing being necessary Mr. Frank Armstrong of the N~val Facility was granted a permit to hold a dance-at Legion Hall on Friday May 6th from 8 to 1, Sp. police to be ~Jack Gardner.' Town clerk Coffin was present wi~h notes to be signed by the Board authorizing the Town treasurer to borrow 100,000.00 in anticipation of revenue, and same were signed by the Boa] A letter was received from Mr. L/ R. Sellew District Highway advising that we would soon be receiving a plan of a pro- posed rotary at the Milestone. Mr. Blount Harbor mast'er was present with a chart showing pro- posed water skieing areas in Nantucket Harbour. Area 1 from junction of W. Jetty with Beach out to N. 10 Nun buoy then out the line or red channel buoys to the end of the jetty,fskieing allowed within said area. Area 2. Eastern~je~t~ out to No. ~ can buoy then a line to No. 7 and No. 9 can buoys then in a line to a buoy to be established.well off shore but in line with the old shimmor pier on edge of Hussey shoal, Skieing allowed to' the North and Northeast of said line. Mr. Blount was authorized to go forward and obtain the necessary permits or approval from the Army Eng. Mr. John Golden was present and introduced Mr.La~ry Flyn~ of the state Dept. of Commerce to the Board. A letter was received from Mrs Morris ~rnest relative to a story ~ she had seen in'one of the local papers purporting to say. that a water skieing area would end at their pier, as this was not the intention and as the Board had approved an> ~area well removed from the Ernst pier it was the sense of 'the meeting that we so advise Mrs Ernst. A form letter to business men from'the Inq. & Mirro~ Publ Co. relative to a special addition in conjunction with a press association convention at Nantucket was received and it was suggested that we ask the paper to include a welcome note from the Selectmen at no cost to us. A letter was received from the Nant. T~ee Commission advising of their organization~ set up for the year. Murrays Beverage store was grahted a~permit for a sign 'over the treet at their plac9 of business Main street same having een approved as to fqrm by the Historic Districts Comm.
