HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959-04-29Selectmens ~'~ Meeting 29'April. s1959 The meeting'came ~o order at~7.30 PM all members of the Board being present except Ch. Pease. Mr. Killen served asCh. Pro Tern. Minute~ of the previous meeting were re~d an~ apProved. War'an% No. 17, totalling $24,042.53 was presented by Town Acct. Barrett and checked and approved by the'Board. Mr. Andrew O. Lewis ~aretaker~of the town dump was present and the following bids relative to bulldozing at the dump on an hourly basis were discussed: Albert Johnsen Sr. 6.50 Nant. Const. Co. 8.00 and Walter Glowacki 10.00 per hour. After'discussion as to the size of the various pieces of equipment etc. it was voted that the keeper be authorized to use the services of the Nant. Const. Co. at 8.00 per hour as needed for bulldozing at the dump this year. Mr. Lewis also discussed witgh the Board the matter of setting hours when the dump would be open and closed if he were going to be able to maintain any control over the dump he suggested 8AM to 6PM weekdays and 8AM to 12 noon on Sundays. No action was taken on this matter'at this Mrd Merwin Blount, Harbor Master was present and discussed with the Board matters under his jurisdiction, stated that he' would take care of the matter of the setting, of buoys at Madaket. The matter of setting up areas for water skieking was discussed and after going over this matter it was suggested that the harbour master draw up on a chart what he considered appropriate areas and submit same to the Board for consideration at our next meeting. It being ne- cessmry if buoys are to be placed to obtain the approval of the Army Eng. and Coast Guard. Chief Howes of the Police dept. met with the Board and discussed problems relative to his dept. stated he hoped to be able~ to obtain the necessary help to pperate the dept and take care of a no parking detail. :- ," ..... It was voted at the suggestion of the Historical Asso. 'to Write the Gen. Services Administration and ask if the Governement Could turn the Surfside Station over to the town at no cost to be set up and preserved as an historical exhibit.~ Mr. F. Kermit Payne was granted a permit to e~ect a sign over the sidewalk at his place of business on Center St. same -having been approved as to form,by the Historic Districts Commission. Mr. Henry Coleman was grnnted a renewal of his' Auctioneers licens Mrs Gertrude Lamb was granted a nenewal of her soft drink p~rmit to be used in.her Chuck trk. at Milestone and Surfs]de. It was voted to advertise for bid~ lot"the cleaning of the~ beache and collection of rubbish at beaches' Art. 30 Annual warrant bids to be in the hands of the Board by 13 May 1959 and to .. be submitted on the specification form to be acceptable. A proposed by Law 'relative to litter was submitted by.Town Counse Sanguinetti as follows: ·Ch. XVIII Board of Health Regulatio: s: "Section 1. No persons shall .throw or drop glass or rubbish n a public way, or on or near a bathing beach, or on a way, sidewalk or reservation in the immediate neighborhood of a bathing beach, or on any other property of the Town of Nant cket except it be in;the area designated'as a "Town Dump" se~ction 2. Whoe%er violates any of these regulations shall*le subject to a fine ,not exceed~ing Twenty Dollars. se le,:tmens Meeting It was voted'that said regulation.be adopted and that same " be advertised in'both the local pape'rs. .. .,Town Counsel Sang~inetti'also"-4dvised t'hat he could'see no ' reason why the Board could not set hours.for dumping at the town dump, and further that with reference .to the status of the Ch- ildrens beach Land Court.petition he would check on same.when next at the land court add advise. An application for~a,utility pole on ~hale street was received -' and date for hearing set ,for 13 May 1959. There being. no further business'the Board went into executive~' session and adj. at 10 PM. Executive Session: ~. Lifeguards Voted. to appoint David Potter for. Childrens beach job and Thomas W.
