1~ Dec. 1958 :
The meeting came to order at 7.30 PNI all members of the Board
Warrant:No. 50~totalling $39,102.69 was ~ presented by Town
./fcct. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board.
.~inutes of ~he previous 'meeting were read and approved~
Mr.' %~esley Simmons was present and discussed with the Board
the matter of his appllcation for a one years leave of
absence from the Nantucket Police Dept.Thls matter was
discussed at some length but no action taken at this time
until we had additional information.
'Mr. Chs. Sayle'and Mr. Elwyn Francis representing the Rights
of Way Committee were presentmd and asked that the,Board
-file-an-appearance in the Land Court,with reference to the
petition to Regist~er the title of Ram Pasture so called
on which the Board has a notice from the Land Court. After
discussion it was voted to refer this matter to the Tonw
Counsel and ask that be file our appearance in this case
and ask to have the court determine the rights of the pub-
lic if any in the various proprietors roads in this area.
Bids were r~eceived as follows for the printing of the 1958
Town report , 700 copies same~stock as last year;
Inquirer and Mirror 5.50 per page
Town Crier 4.20 per page. It was voted'that this, work
be awarded to the Town Crier the lowest bidder.
A form notice was received the Dept. Public Welfare relative
to hearings in Boston ralative to a change in the medical
-: care plans of OAA and ADC ~nd placed on file.
'Mr. Nathan Thurston was granted.a fenwal of his'permit~to
transport garbage for the year 1959.
Shellfish' ~qarden ~inslow reported th'at he planned to move
scallop seed from the Monomoy area off into dee~ water
this coming wee~ end. '
'A letter was received from the Nant'-. Island Chamber of comm.
.asking _the Boards assisatance in inserting an article in
,the annual warrant to have the meeting vote on whether or
not they wanted the 'name of the Post Office to be listed
as Nantucket Island Post Office. The Board was in favor
.of this and voted to so advise the Chamber.
A letter was,received' from the Supt. of Schools asking that.
an article be inserted in the warrant if necessary to~
authorixe payment for repairs *to the Cyrus Pierce and the
Roof of the Academy Hill school bldgs directly from the
proceeds received from the.inxurance companies for this
damage which was caused by windstorm. It was f~lt that
this ~as the proper way to handle this matter but no dca
cision was made' as to whether we or the school committee whoulc
insert same. Secy. Glidden stated that he would get add-
itional information on this matter.
It was*voted that the Warrant for the Annual Town meeting be
opened this date and that same may close on-31 Dec. 1958.
There being ho further business the Board went into executive
session to discuss welfare matters and adj. at 10.30 PM.
