HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958-08-14selectmens Meeting 14 Aug. 1958 The meeting came to order.at 8PM all members of.the Board being peesent except Mr. Meilbye. Warrant No. 33,' totalling $44,104.67 was presented by Town Acer; Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Minutes of the previous.meeting were approved. Mr. Chas Sayle a~d Mr. Elwyn Francis were present' and asked that some of the rights of ways at Surfside off Nonantum Ave. be opened up, which was voted. The Board also had before it a letter from Mr. Elias J. Lyon offering the use of his lot at the corner of Nonantume Ave. and Wannacomet St. for park- ing by shore fishermen and stating that the Island Service would contribute the lumber to construct a set of steps down the bank if the town would have same constructed. It was voted to accept said offer, send a letter of thanks to Mr. Lyon and the Island Service Co. and have Mr. Putterck. construct said steps. An application for pole locations on Squam Rd. from the Gas & Electric Co. was before the Board notices having been sent the abutters. A telegram was received from Herman Hagedorn opposing same stating that the owners had a gentlemens agreement not to construct any pole lines on their lands Mr. Ripley Nelson aSso an abutter was present and stated that he was familiar with the background of this matter and that the agreement Mr. Hagedorn referred to applied onl, to private property. Inasmuch as this application was for locations on a Public Way, Squam Rd. same was voted approved A letter was received from the Island Set. Co. advising that they were operating a launch service and asking if any license for same was necessary. The Board felt that none was; and that same was a valuable service to boats in the Harbor. On request of Chief Howes Mr. Richard Herrick was appointed a Sp. Police officer to serve at the Siasconset Casino. ~he B~a~drdls~u~ed the matter of the use of the Taxi stand on Federal street, and voted-to have Chief Howes advise the operators that one taxi operator could not put more than one cab in same ara time if there were other cabs desiring to use same,,- A letter was received from the Madaket Conservation ASS0. Howard Bardsley Ch..relative to the conditions at Broad,Creek and .. filed for discussion with the DPW at the annual county meeting on the 21st. Mr, Barrett noted.-that the grass around the right of Way signs on Hulbert Ave, needed trimming and same was referred to the Supt. of streets. It was voted to have a sign erected at the Broad creek area ad- vising jeeps to use the travelled roads and not make new road unto the beach. It was voted to request of the Supt. of streets a list of the amount of curb used this year and that on hand. There being no further business the meeting adj. at 9 PM. James K. Glidden, Secy.
