HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958-08-07Selectmens Meeting/ 7,August'1958 The meeting came to order at 8,15 PM having been preceeded by a County Commissioners Meeting, all ~embers of the Board were.present except Mr. Blair. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Warrant No. 32, totalling $11,253.86 was presented by Town Acct. Barrett and~checked and approved by the Board. Mr. Henry Huyser was present and. domplained as to the work don~, in constructing an asphaltl gutter or waterway on New St.. Supt. Jaeckle who was present stated that it was necessary to relieve a washing conditionl after heavy rains and so far as he knew most of the property owners on the street were happy with same. Chief'Bartlett of the Fire Dept. and Mr. John Gaspe Fire Alarm Supt, were present and conferred with the Board relative the the alarm system being installed,in Our Island Home. Stated'that three methods were available so that the inside alarm system could be'connected with the Fire Alarm box outside the bldg and that he would recommend the Temp-O-Set unit whcih could be purchase for $1.7~ each and could be connected with~the presen~o~ing the only extra work being~ converting and fitting a Mmx-For the existing boxes which could be done within the figure of the contract. It was voted to aluthorize the electrician Wm. Waine & Sons to go forward with this work using 1 ths unit. Chief Bartlett reported that the cost of insurance to cover the regular men'and the fire alarm supt. and assr.if injured while not attending a fire, which the.p.~esent insurance covers would be $85.75 for the remained'of the.year and that he had sufficient funds in his account to pay such a premium and would recommedn said coverage. It was voted to , aughorize the chief to obtain this coverage. The Board conferred with Supt. of Streets Jaeckle with reference to the annual county meeting of the DPW to be held next week and considered the following program to be offered the state Bond Issue - Quidnet Road 7,920 feet est cost ~ $100~Q00.00 · Ch. 90 new const. Cliff Rd. 7,890 feet est cost ' 36,000.00 Ch. 90 maintenance 5 & 5 10,000.00 The matter of the,possability of a stop sign at the bottom ~ the cobble road from the Cliff.to Jefferson Ave.. was discussed but no action taken other than to request info on same from the Highway dept. and the Chief. Pl. A letter was received from Mr. Leroy True H0sp. Adm. pointing out the great service contributed by the police dept.'in assisting the hospital ambulance on calls and was turned over to the Police Dept. A ;etition by the-Gas &'Elec. Co. for ~ole locations on Squam '-.Rd. was set for hearing next week,'the l~th. A request to have.t'he grass cut at.the rear of the town bldg. -corn. broad street was referred to.the street dept. The VFW was granted permission for a P~ppy Day On the 16th of Aug A request of the chamber of. commerce for assistance in providing seats and cleaning up the area on St.,Wharf after a ban~ concert to be held on the 12th was referred to the highway dept. for attention. A petition of Mrs Rhoda Genesky for a curb at her property on Walsh s~reet-was noted and placed on file. Sel c me s Meeting ?, ^ugh. A notice was receded £rom ihe DPU ~ff a hearing'on'a off the Nant.'.and Sconset Bus Line'Inc. flor approval o£,' a bathing beach bus line,'hearing date Aug. 22nd.. Also received was notice off hearing at,D~U on petition' off W~ Union for rate incrrase hearing date Augt 18th. There being no further business the Board went into executibe' session to disuss welfare matters and adj. at'10 PM.,
