The meeting '~ame,to order at 8PM all members of the Board being
present, except, blt. Pease, blr. Blair served as Ch. Pro Tern
Barrett and checked and approved by the Board.
~4inutes of 'the pre~ious meeting were read and~approved.
The Board was. in receipt of approval from the State Director of
Accts authorizing the town acct. to-allow the Tree Comm.
to overdraw their account in the amount of $3,000 to combat
Dutch Elm disease.
A letter was received from Mr. Sellew Dist. Highway Bng. relative
to the annual county hearing suggesting that same could
be held on the 21st of Aug. at 9.15 PM and same was voted
approved.
A leter was received from Mr. Alcon H. Chadwick suggesting that
an area of beach be constructed at Sesachacha Pond near
the 'road to provide a site for fresh water, bathing and
placed on file for fu'ture comment with a letter to Mr.
Chadwick thanking him for his interest and suggestion.
Th'e Navy Wives Club was granted approval to start their Block
dance on Aug. 30th at 8PM father than at 9PM.
On request Of Chief Howes it was voted to have a stop sign erected
on Cahdlestreet fiorfieg of Salem to face Northbound drivers
on Candle street.
An application was received from Mr. Antone Medeiros for a curb~
stone,at his property at Monomoy, and voted to be.filed
with other applications and Mr. Medeiros advised that we
have used this years appropriation.
Mr. Patrick Roche requested a no parking sign on Lower Pleasant
street opposite a driveway entrance and same was voted
approved.
The Marine Lumber Co. submitted estimates of the cost of the
wood work to make the flve'signes proposed for the heads
of the various wharfs running from 85.00 to 55.00 in- ~
asmuch as it appeared that the total cost of such a project
would be in the vicinity of $750.00 dollars it was voted
to file same forreference to an article in the annual warran

T~ was noted that some of the panes Of glass have 'been broken at
the bldg at the Childresn beach and same was referred to
Mr. John Putterick for attention. ,,
There being no further 'business the Board went into ex'ecutibe
session to discuss welfare matters and adj. at 10 PM.
Executive Session:
Voted to advise Mr. Furlong at Our Island Home that ~he Board
wanted Mrs Alonzo Fisher moved back to her original room.
-and also that we wanted no further solicitation for any
cause in behalf of the Island Home.
Voted after discussion to write the Supt. 'of Street~ and advise
that we are dissatisfied with the way Warrans Landing has
been repaired and request that he take immediate steps to
see that the situation is corrected.

, that the streets~'about the center and especially Main
street are in poor 'condition and that we want a better
job done. " ~-
The Board discussed~the'matter Of H~r~iet'Leighto~s 'm~the~ '~
who lis at'the Island Home, it appearing that Miss Leighton
has' to have an operation .and will not be able'to care
for her, that'while the mother ~is presently ..on OAA she
will not be able to stay on same if~she remains at'the
Home and further that ~she has a settlement other than
Nantucket which can be billed for her care it~was voted
that, she be admitted to the home at the rate ~f $30.00
per week, and same billed~against.the~tow~ of settlement.
