HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958-07-24Selectmens Meeting : 24 July 1958 The~meeting came to order at 8PM~all members of'the Board b~ing present. warrant No. 30, totalling $33,500.21 was presen'ted by Town Acct. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Minutes of the previous meeting were read End approved. Members of the Nant. Tree Commission were present and conferred with the Board with reference to funds needed to combat Dutch Elm Disease which has recently been found on the Island. Stated they estimated their needs to be estimated at $7,240.00 after discussion it was voted to write the Emergency Finance Board and request authority to overdraw this account in the amount of $3,000.00'with the thought that this amount if approved would cover their needs until we could have a Sp. Town Meeting in the Fall. Mr. Albert G. Brock, Ins. agent was present and disdussed with the Board coverage that could be obtained to cover regular employees of the Fire Dept. who might be injured other than at or going to a'fire, for which they. now have no coverage the amount of the premium of such coverage would be $207.00 per year to.cover 7 permanent men and the fire alarm supt. and assistant. No action was taken on this matter-at this time. Mr. Henry Coffin was granted a renewal of his Soft Drink license at the Okoraw Golf Range, Milestone Rd. Sconset. Mr. Walter Sisson and Walter Pollak wrote protesting the condit the of Clifford Smith'property at Madaket and it was voted to write Mr. Smith and request that he cooperate in cleaning the area up. It was voted to refer~article 88 of the annual Warrant which re- fers to a right of way to sesachacha pond to the town couns~ for action. .~ The Board were in receipt of the contracts for Ch.90 maintenance for the next 6 months from the DPW and approved and signed s amc. A letter was received from the DPW asking if the date of Aug. 22m at 10AM would be a satisfactory time and date for~the ann1 County hearing. It was voted to write and ask if this~hear- 'lng could be held on the 21st which would be more convenient for the Board. The Board voted to reastablish the regulations relative.to water skieing in Nantacket Harbor as in effect last year and to advertise.same. The regulations prohibit water skieing'in the harbour except in the area from the intersection of the W. Jetty and the beach to No. 10 buoy and to the end of the W. Jetty. and area off the east jetty known as the Horseshed and between 1st and 2nd point Coatue. Mr. Robert Hardy dba WP Hardy & Son was granted a renewal of his permit to sell firearms. .. A letter was received from G. M. Poland Esq. requesting ahearlng on a decision of the Historic Districts Commission, in beh- alf of Charles Swain et ux. Also on file was a letter from the Historic Districts Commission to Mr. Swain revoking their previous decision and granting his permit. As this obviated the necessity £or a hearing the matter wasplaced on file. Selectmen' Meeting 24 July ~ 1958' The Histori~-Di'~tricts commigsion presented,various ske~che~. designed by Mrs Doris'Beers as*suitable to,be erected at the heads of,the various wharfs and it was voted to de- , termine what the cost of,the wood work on each on the designs would be before making any desicion on this matter. The matter of the 300th Anniversary Committee making various invitees to the opening ceremonis Honarary Citizens was voted referred to t~e Town Counsel for opinion. There being' no f~rther business ihe Board went into*~xecutlve session to discuss welfare matters and adjourned at 9.30 PM. Executive Session: , , The matter of'Mrs'Alonzo Pisher returning ~o her old room at %~e Island Home was discussed and it was voted to so instruct the keeper. _ It was voted to-authorize the Se'cy.'to retain the Service of one Peter Clakk,~,~as lifeguard at the ~Jetties Beach toreplace Mr. David Potter who was forded to resign due to a death in the family.' The Board idscussed the matter of ~amily Shellfish'permits and voted to authorize the Secy. to issue licenses~to persons who leased real estate for not less than a month. James K. Glidden~ Secy.
