HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958-07-10 Sele~tmens Meeting ' 10 July 1958 ~- ,~ ~The meeting came to order at 8.25 PM having been prec'eeded by , by a Coudty Commissioners meeting. Warrant No. 28; tot.alling~$48,554.69 was pr'esented by Town Acct. Barrett and checked and approved,by the Board. Minutes ,of the previous meeting were approved. Mr. Parker Gray was present and requested that the Board ~ive consideration to the matter of ~llowing him to keep his place of business open after the closing hour for selling alcoholic beverages, in order~to sell food. This-matter was discussed by the Board in executive S~ession and it was Voted that no change be made in the existing regulations as to closing hours. Mr. Joh~ Golden was present and gave a report in behalf of the Public relations .committee for the past month, stated that business~was off both here and on the other island and the cape, probably attributable-to the bad weather we have been having. , Mr. J~esse Bldridge, caretaker of the Scon~s~t Comfort station was present ,and discussed with the Board painting necessary at the comfort station. Mr. Eldridge was authroize to purchase 'the necessay materials to do this work. He also advised 'that one of the outside doors was in very poor shape~and should be replaced and stated that he had contacted three carpenters and'obtained figures a~_follows for this job: . Albert Bgan & Sons -60.25; Pete Lyons'68.00 -Mike Lamb 54.8~ this included providing a door an8 hardware and priming and painting 'two co~ts. The matter was left with the Secy to determinte from Mr. Putterick if we had any suitable doors available and if not to authroize the lowest-bidder Mr. Lamb to do this work. Mr. Lane Mann, lifeguard at the Childrens ~each was present ~to meet the members of the Board. Mr. Marcus Ramsdell was present 'and complained a~out the con- dition of the Warrens Landing road. Mr. Barrett stated that he had talked with Mr. John-Kittila of the mosquito con- trol commission and that he was going to put'in a tile to 'drain the,Dr. W~kt~ salt meadow and that if this~were done 4 or 5 lo'ads of fill in the low spot in-the road would-co- rrect the situation. Mr. Jaeckle Supt. of streets stated ,that he 'felt this was all that was necessary_ and the road is passable now and needs no great amohnt of work. Mr. Robert Gilbreth was present to discuss the matter of the Dioness beach, arriving'after the county commissioner meeting had adjourned. The Board discussed the problem with Mr.~Gilbreth but felt there'was nothing we could do at this time to provide access to the beach over the high bank, .the board was opposed to bulldozing any of the bank away and felt that we should examine the area with a veiw to putting an article in the annual warrant to construct a few sets of steps at, stratigis "locations on the town park land where the bank is high. ~ Contracts for the maintenance of the state highway for~the next six months were received from the DPW and signed by the Board. ~ It was voted to approve~the ,installation of a sign at the Be~ach~ street end of Harbor view way. A letter was received from the Na~y Wives club thanking the Board for permitting them to operate a street dance. Page'2. With reference ~ the application of Clifford Smith~ t~' mo~e a good sized bldg from Orange S~. to Madaket ig was felg that he,should go over the route with the Supt. of streets and check the clearances ~o'make sure :the building not Be hung up before we would grant any permit. ~ ~. The matter of'the ihtersection of Orange and ¢onsu~ as a stop s~reet at Consue was disucosed~and sugges~ed~that we~ have the Supt. of streets look at sine. Also the matter'~f having a yellow lifie painted as designating the property line at the Nant. Auto Ser'~,prop. was disucsse and suggested that we so'advise the owner. Island Ser. The matter of fire ext~ and pric~s Submitted~la~--~ek by the Chief of the fire dept. was disucssed it appearing that he could obtain the necessary dosa and acid type without ~cost but that we would need 2~antl freeze type and chemical type and that the cost quoted would be 5 and 2 off to the town. ' Inasmuch as it appeared that,it was nec- essary that we have this equipment for insurance purposes same was approved. .~ Mr. Roger King-advised that he could paint the, rear,jet and the ,steps, rear at Our Island Home b['l Sept. his-f)gure of $300.00nwas approved. , : James K.
