HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958-06-05Selectmen's 'Meeting, ~} June 1958 The meeting .came t6 order at 8.20 PM having been preceeded by a County~Commissioners ,meeting all members of tile Board being present. :- Warrant No- 23, totalling $17,831~48'was presented'by Town Acct. Barrett and chedked and'approved by the Board. , Minutes of theopr~vious meeting were read and'app~'oved. Mr. George Anastos representing, an Ind. '~axi drivers Asso. was present and requested that the Board set off,a taxi stand on Federal street, between Liberty Lane and Main st. on the W. side of Federal. This matter was taken under advisement until our next meeting. Bids were received and' opened on Art.'20~a~ follows: Gilbert B. B~rchell Ji, $1200.00; Charles F. Davis $1335.00 the Board took the awarding of this under advisement and later in the m~eeting adwarded the contract to Mr. Burchell the lowest bidder. .~ Mr. John Golden of the Publi~ relations committee was present and submitted the monthly report of said committee. A letter was received from Mr. R. Colgate advising that we could open Sesachacha pond any time and voted to take the matter up with Mr. Winslow Shellfish Warden. The following licenses and permits were granted: Bertha Hayden, Common Vicct. and Ice Cream. Knotty Pines,' entertainment. W. B. H.' Snow, permit to hang a sign on Federal St. and Soft drink license. Ocean House, Innhilders licenAe, and piano~entertainmen~~ Ocean House lodge, Lodging house license, with stipulation they have Sp. Police on'duty at night. An application for an~entertainment license at the Sidewalk Cafe. was tabled to dteermine the time of closing. The Navy Wives club asked for a permit f~r a street dance on the '- 4th of July from 9 to 1 in the area on lower ,pear st. betwee~ · Federal and S. Water. same was tabled for one week. ~A letter requesting~8 slo~ children, sign on the street on Union street was received and erferred~to the Supt. of streets to confer with the parties. ' . Mr. Frnacis McGarvey was granted a lodging house license on India street.. ~ ~ A letter from a Mrs schepprepuesting a permit to extedn a side- walk near the corner of.eosy..st and Old N. Wharf was re- ferred to the Supt.of streets for more information. Th'ere being no further business the Board' went into executive Session ad adj. at 11.15 PM. '~ Voted to Write Mildred'Jewett that she;could not sell Milk and Ice-cream without a license and that a license~ would not be issue~ until we had inspected the premises. James K. Glidden, Secy.
