Barrett and checked .and approved by the Board. Minutes of the previous 'meeting .were approved. Mr. John H. Bartlett Jr. was present and discussed with~'~e Board the matter of letting out Hummock Pond, suggested that we wait about a week before 'doing so. Later in the meeting it was voted that the pond be let out on Wed. 14 ~May 1958 and that same be done under the supervision of . Selectmen, Barrett, the 'opening to be made at the Clarke Cove side of the pond 'and when both sides of the pond have run down the end of ram pasture point be buldozed closed. ~' to prevent salt water coming into the opening from getting, into the main pond. It was voied to make an inspection trip to look .at .curbs and sidewalks and outline a program on same, with.the Supt. of streets on Monday at 4PM. Application was m~de by the Nant. Yacht Club for'renewal of its all alcoholic club license and voted to take the course prescribed by law. A letter relative ~to Charles street which had been discus~sed in the county commissioners meetings, from Charles Pearl was read and placed on fi~e. Notification was received from Mr. Lewis,caretaker of the tonw = dump advising that he had contacted all of the local bull- dozer opera~tors and that'the only one he had a price from was the Nanto Const. Co. and that he would like to use their services in any event. Ir'was voted that he be auth- orized to do so at the rate of $8.00 per hour. A notice was received from the DPU relative to an application from'Towhill & Chase for approval of certain streets on .their route from the cliff'to the point, inasmuch as the notice and street names were ambiguious it was voted that they be requested to meet with us at our next meeting to explain the matter .... The matter 'of the" ~arious Army Eng.. proposals for const, of ~ breakwaters in the harbor was disucssed a'letter anti,plan of same having been received. It was voted that the plan and the reference material be carried in the local-press '~and that we set a tenative date for a public hearing on Tues May 20th at the Cyrus Pierce School at 8PM, subject to confirmation Of use of hall and availability of some- from the Eng. to-be present on that date. The Legion Au~. was granted a permit for a poppy day On ~17 May. Mr. Elliot Whelden was appoint, ed deputy harbor master to serve .at Madaket Harbor for the ensuing year. It was voted to advertise for bids on work of plastering a ceil- ing in the boiler room of our Island Home, and for the coll- ~ection'of rubbish from town and county bldgs, on a contract basis, same to be in the hands of the board by next week. There being no furt'her business the Board went into executive session and adj. at 11.15 PM. Executive session: A letter was received from Ch. Houston, :who is interested in leasing the former camp holiday bldg. advising that he would pay $500.00 per season for lease of same.
