10 April 1958
The meeting came to order at 7.30 PM all members of the Board *being present.
Warrant No. 15, totalling $24,115.54 was presented by Town Acct.
Barrett and checked and approved by the Board.
Minutes of the previous meeting wrere read and approved.
The following bids on painting the fence at the South cem~tary
Sparks Ave. were opened, and read:~

It was voted that this job be awarded to the lowest bidder
Chester Williams for the bid price'of $490.00
Bids on furnishing and installing a Fire Alarm System as spec-
ified at Our Island Home were received and read as follows:
Wm. Waine & Sons 1249.00 no discount
Robert B. Blair 1380.33 5% ten days
Gordon MacDonald 1510.00 no discount.
As Mr. Blair,was bidding on t~is item he disqualified him-
self from voting. On motion duly made and seconded it was voted
that this job be, awarded to the lowest bidder Wm. Waine~and Sons
for the bid price of $1249.00 the work to be completed in 60 day~
Mr. William Winslow Shellfish warden Conferred with the B~ard
and presented charts showing results of scallop survey.
Suggested moving seed scallops from off the Grassy Island
area at Madaket offshore to a better area and same was ,,.
approved.
Warden Winslow also suggested that we could obtain some
seed quahogs from the great point area and it was voted
that he proceed with this work the amount,and areas of
planting to be left to his discretion. Voted to pay $6.00
per bushel for this seed.
The matter ~f opening Sesachacha Pond was discussed and
it was left.for the Warden to contact Mr. Colgate and obtair
permission to open the pond across his baach land.
Mrs Gilbert Burchell was granted a Common Vict. soft drink and
ice cream license at premises on Milk St. extension same
having been inspected and reported OK.
It was voted to advertise for sale by bids old batteries at the
central fire atation, bids to be in the hands of the Board
by next meeting.
Notification was.received from the U.S. Army Eng. at Boston that
they had completed their preliminary survey of Nantucket
harbor and would like the Board to meet with them at Boston
on Monday the 14th to go over and discuss same. ~ ....
It was voted to write Mr. Sellew the Dist. Highway Eng. pointing
out our desire that the work on Monomoy Rd. be completed
before the summer season, and that the Sealcoating bedone
in the fall.
The following applications were received for renewals of their
alsoholic beverage licenses and voted to take the course
prescribed by law; White Elephant Hotel, Parker Gray, Manuel
and Anna Correira.

Allens Lobster grill was granted a renewal of their en~ert
--.' license.for recorded music. -~
Notice' Was rec'eived' from' the DPW of the applicati°n"of'~he'iS(X)
for a permit:f or'a bulkhead,, in the location across the
slip which formerly was Kings Boat Yard. plans of same were
on file and their were no objections to same.
A public hearing' having been held in the AM at the site of the
Nant.' Auto Service, for a permit to store gas in two under-
ground tanks and no objections having' been received same
was voted approved.
There being no further business the~Board went' into executive
session to discuss various matters and adj. at 11 PM.
Welfare: An application was received from Lesilie 'Fountain for~
assistance on his hospital and Drs-bi115 totalling over
$1500.00 dollars. The Board discussed this matter and voted
to'inquire of the Town counsel as to whether a lien could'
be obtained on real estate of the .applicant if we paid
bills.
The Board went over specifications for the leasing of the
Jetties Beach and voted that same be advertised for public
bid, same to be in the hands of the Board by Thurs April
24th. 1958.
Mr. Meilbye brought up the matter of Charles Street( Where
the wind and tide have piled shad around the fences of the
abutting properties and asked if the Board would have any~
objection to the o~ers having s~e cleared away.'The Board
was in accord with this and suggested that the Supt. of
streets be furst contacted .........
It was voted to have Mr. Putterick look at the information
bureau with reference to getting the wood work painted.~
