The meeting came tO order at 7.30 PM all members of the Board being present.
Warrant No. 11 totalling $39,209.09 was presented by Town Acct.
Barrett and checked and approved by the Board.
,Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
,Mr. Robert Leske was present and discussed his views on town,
insurance and commented on remarks made by the other agents
at the previous meeting. The Board stated that it was our
intention to h~ve a meeting with all of the agents before
a definite decision was made on this matter.
The matter of the application of Mr. Francis McGarvey for a
street light on Sparks avenue was discussed and it was voted
to have a light installed on Pl. No. 9.
The Board approved the shellfish regulations for the 1958-59
season, see copies attached and made a part of these.records
and voted that same be posted and a copy sent to the Dir.
of Marine Fisheries as provided by law. ..~
Applications for renewal of their seasonal alcoholic beverage
licenses were received from the following and vot.ed to take
the course prescribed by law: Frank A. Burr dba The Ropewalk
Robert S. Backus dba Wauwinet House, Siasconset Book Store Ii~c.
Margaret W. Manchester dba Nantuckets New Ocean House and
On request of the Airport Commission it was vcs ted to request thel[
town treasurer to borrow $120,000.00 dollars for the purposel~
of banking the runway extension, these funds to be reimbursed
to the town by the state and federal governments.
The Nantucket Red Men were granted a permit for a dance on. i7. March from 9 to 1 at the High School Audotirium.
A notice was received from the Land Ct. relative to the petition
or'John Grout et ux to register their' title to land off
Lindberg Ave. in Sconset and voted referred to the Town
Counsel. '. · ,
It was voted to'request an opinion of the town counsel as ~o
article 103 of the annual warrant relative to bids.
The Board 'examined'the con~ract of the 300th Anniversary comm.
with Newsome and Co..Inc. of Boston which had been prepared
by the town counsel and voted that same be approved and
that the Ch. be authorized to sign same for the Board.
On the same .subject it was Voted that Mr. Walter si' Barrett
be appointed as the Boards representative on this.committee.
Letters were received from Raynor M. Gardner and Miss' Bridle Led-
well protesting a boat landing or Marina at the Childrens
Beach area, and placed on fileLThe Board pointed, out . that
protests-at this time were premature inasmuch as before any
action could be taken public hearings and a town meeting
would have to be held,
Mr, W; O. Moss dba Nantucket Dairy was ~ranted a permit to sell
ice cream and dairy products wholesale and retail at his
place of business on Broad street. An application for a
permit for a sign was tabled pending receipt of a sketch of
same.
On request of the Shellfish warden it was voted that-the area
east of the creek entrance into Coskata Pond be posted as
a seed clam area.

Mr. Barrett mentioned that,he had'been approached as to the.,
desireability of opening Hummock Pond the Board discussed,
this matter and~voted that, s~e be tabled at this time~.,

positions on F.riday morning follow, lng
an ex~utive session of the Boa.rd the
previous evening during which time
the appointments'were made:
The major change was made in the
composition of the new Airpor5 Com-
mission which the Selectmen reduced
from 9 m~bers to 5 in accordance
with the.provisions of ~rticle 73
approved a~ thc annual ~wn m~ting.
The Board also ruled tha~ .the existing
commission shall be disbanded on
M~rch 31 with ~he new appointmen~
becoming effective on April 1.
Albert Egap, Jr. was appo~n~d
the one year term; John L. H~rdy and
Harrison Gorman a'eceived t~o year
terms and Marcel E. A. Gouin and
Albert L. ~nning,..Sr. were appoint-
ed to .three year ~grm~.
-Mr. Hardy .and Mr. Gorman are
holdovers fr~m the old commms~on
~hile the other three men are new-
comers. Mr. Gouin is a retired Vice-
Admi~ral of the U. S. Navy and served
aboard the carrier Hornet.

The Selectmen decided to reduce
the size of ghe Public Relations Com-
mittee from 7 to 5 members.
Reappointed were Robert A. Hardy,
Allen W. Holdga~e, Robert F. Mur-
ray and Rober5 C. Caldwell. Sidney
Killen, a new appointee, was named

was an applicant for reappointmenL
