Warrant No 10 totalling $10,224.93 was presented by Town Acct. Barrett and checked .and approved by the Board. Minutes Of the previous meeting were read and approved. Mr. Francis McGarvey was present and requested a street ~ight near his property on Sparks Ave. It was requested that he put this request in writing and that the Board would look at the area in question. Mr. Nestor Richards of the Fishermens Asss. was present and sta- ted that the Asso. had voted to request that the Scallop Survey as made in the past in April be made this year the latter part of March, and the matter was so Voted. blt. Richards advised that the Asso. had voted that their be no open season on Soft shell clams but after_discussing this matter the Board voted to have an open season during Sundays in April on the areas East of Orange street as last year. The Board discussed the matter of shellfish regulations and went over last years permits and it was voted that the regulations be the same as last year. Supt. of streets Jaeckle was present and discussed with the Board the matter of the Broad Creek crossing, advised that it had cost $1126.03 to keep the crossing open in- cluding 40.00 of snow fence in 1957 and that he had expended about 400.00 this year. The Board discussed various suggestions as regards the area but made no decision on the matter other than as at present to try and keep the area passable as best we can. Mr. Arthur Best'ocher of the C. D. was present a~d request per- 'mission to erect an aerial for the C D. communicators on the roo~of the town bldg. on S. Water street and same was voted approved. The Board discussed specifications with the Fire Chief Of various articles pertaining to his dept. after discussion it was voted to write the Finance Committe inquiring of their intentions as regards the wording of Art. 55 pertaining to the radio dispatch system, and to belay consideration of specifications till a special meeting on Tues. at 7.30 PM. Mr. Coleman, Mr. Congdon, Mr. C.A.P.Johnson Mr. Brock and Mr. Turner agents and representatives of the companies carrying our town insurance were present and conferred with the Board relative to values and other matters pertaining to our insurance. Renewal applications for seasonal alcoholic beverage' licenses were received from the following and voted to take the course prescribed by law: ' Clinton & Agnes Murray, Walter and Helen Hatch and Harold Lindley dba Ships Inn. The Board discussed Art. 100 of the annual warrant rela~ing to a quorum at Sp. town meetings and voted that same be re- ferred to the Town Counsel for action. On recommendation of Chief H0wes, Mr. Howard Bard~ley was app- ointed a Sp. Police officer. No person shall take ~from the waters~of Nantucket. clams, ~ quahogs, oysters, eels, or scallops, without a permit issued by the Select- men as public welfare may require. Whoever shall take from the waters of Nantucket, clams, quahogs, oysters, eels. or scallops without a permit is- sued by the Selectmen or after said permit has been revoked by the Select- men or whoever for the purpose of procuring a license or permit falsely makes any representation or state- ment required shall be punished by a fine of fifty dollars ($50.00) for each offense. ' ' SeCtion 2. The Selectmen shall is- sue permits as directed in Article 130 of the General La~vs of the Common- xvealth of Massachusetts. Section 3. This permit shal{ allow the taking of legal quahogs, and Section 5. Not over 8 bushels of quahogs in any one d~y, of which not more than 2 bushels may be of little necks, shall be taken for commercial use. Quahogs in inland waters shall be taken by hand digging only. A first violation of any of the Sections Two through Five, in- clusive, shall be punishable by a fine of not less than three dollars ($3.00) and not more than fi.fry dollars ($50.00), or upon a hearin~ by the Board of Selectmen license may be revoked for whatever period the Board may determine.
