Warrant No. 3 totalling $74i0.93 Was presented by Town Ac'ct. Barrett and checked and approved by theBoard. Minutes of k the previous meeting wereread'and approved. Mr. Harold Lindly of the Chamber of Commerce was present on the matter of a petition drawn up by the Trans..Committee of the Chamber which was read by Mr. Indio of that Committee the petition calling for repeal of the.bill which makes authority service N.Bedford year rouund with Ferry type service. This petiton was approved by the Board and endorsed by them along with'the Chamber and representatives of the Island of Marthas Vineyard. The Board in discussing the steamship authority felt that we should write Mr. Robert Backus our member and advise him that we were opposed to any action at this time by the authority to sell the Steamer Nantucket. Agreements relative to the construction of Milk St. extension were received from the D~W and signed by the Board. Allens Lobstergrill was granted a renewal of its Common Vict. license. A report Was received from Mr. Rezendes, inspectorof animals for inclussion in the Town report. Mr. Earl Lowell was granted a permit to hang a sign over the sidewalk at his place of business on Center St. same haveing been approved as to form by the Historic Districts Commission A letter was received from the 300th anniversary committee re- questing that we appoint Mr. John Golden ex. dir. of the. Chamber of Commerce to this*committee to replace Mr. Whitehil who had resigned, and on motion duly made and seconded it was so voted. A letter was received from the Planning Board requesting'use of, ~a small room upstairs in the Sanford House for their files and same was voted approved._ .~ .... Notice was received from the Barnstabl~ county retirement syste~ advising that our share or assessment for 1956 was'S5,425.15. There being-no further business the Board went'into 'executive session to discuss welfare matters and aj. at 10 PM. Welfare: ~' Question on Matthew Carvello at Our Island Home, determine_ if he is able to be discharged.' An application was ~eceived for admission of Mary Duggan to Our Island Home for a short convelesant period, in discussing this matter it appeared that~this person would be a difficult patient and it was voted to defer any action until we could find out more information. The Board discussed the matter of vacation pay for one Richard Barrett, formerly of the Police Dept. and after con- sideration of ail the factors ~nvolved it was felt that this subject was entitled to two weeks vacation pay. Warrant No. 4 totalling $15,668.82 was presented by Town Acct. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Minutes Of ~he previous ~eeting were read and approved. Proofs of loss totalling $4,255.57 relative to the damage caused by the boiler explosion at the High School were presented, by the insurance companies envolved and signed by the Board. Gordon Mtr. Co. was granted a renewal of its class ! used-car dealers license. Mr. Clifford Smith was~granted a:permit to'move a section~of bldg from Ornage street to Dioness he to notify the police dept. of the actual time of moving. Mr. Arthur Desrocher C.D. director was present and submitted a list of C.D. volunteer workers which was approlved by the Board. A notice was received fromthe DPW relative to an application of the Island Marine Service Inc.~ for a permit to erect a.~ travel lift crane at its premises in Nantucket harbor and noting that the date for hearing was set for 3 Beb. 1958. The Board was in receipt of sketche~ from the DPW showing marina developments at the Childrens bemch and Easy street Sherburne Oil Co. was granted'a permit to ~erect a ~h~loil~sign on Wazhington St. at the ~hite Whale Chevrolet premises and Albert L. Silva was granted a permit to erect two sig~s of Shell oil one at N. Beach street and one,at Milestone Auto service. Ail signs to be so hung that any portion which'ex- tends over the street~be high enough to clear any traffic using said ways'~ An application from the planning board to use the old lock up premises rather than a room in the Sanford House as pre- viously requested was recedved and voted approved. The Board was in receipt of.notice of hearing on H bill lative to putting shellfhish wardens under control of the state'and voted to request Rep.
