HomeMy WebLinkAbout1957-09-26Selectmens Meeting 26 Sept. 1957 The meeting came to order at SPM all members of the Board being present. .. Warrant No. 39, totalling $26,084.28 was presented by Town Acct. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Mt.George H. MacKay was present and Suggested to the Board that some action should be taken at this time to establish a speed limit in Nantucket harbor with a proper sign board erected in the Brant Point area. The Board discussed th is matter and voted that the Harbor Master look into same and advise us his recommendations. Bids on furnishing fuel oil for the period 1 Oct. thru 31 Sept. 1957 and 58 were opened as follows: Island Set. Co. .15¢ per gal With esculator clause if posted price rose or fell. She~burne Oil Co..146¢ per gal. It was voted that the contract go to the lowest bidder Sherburne Oil Co... A notice was received from the DPW of the application of the Steamship Authority for a license to construct a 16 pile dolphin off the end of the wharf and placed on file. Mr. Kent' K. King was granted an Innholders license to be exer- cised at the Moorings and Gardner street. The Board was in receipt because of reasons of health of the resignation of W. Ripley Nelson from the Nant.'Tree Commission. Same was voted accepted with regret ~nd-a letter of appreciation sent to Mr. Nelson for his work on this Commission. · The Tree Commission offered the-name ~o{ Russell Pope for con- sideration of the Board to replace Mr. Nelson and same was voted approved. Mr. Pope to serve until 1959. Mr. John W. Morgan C.D. director wrote advising that he was resigning from this post and that his reasons were per- sonal .~tated that he had received full cooperation loca11¥. Said resignation was received with regret and the Board discussed a replacement for Mr.~ Morgan, but tabled this matter for further consideration. It was voted to keep the comfort stations 'open for an'additional week if funds permitted. The Board voted to instruct the Supt. of streets to place some of the fill from the sealcoating on the town parks~ land at the junction of N. Beach st. and Jefferson Ave. in the swamply area cleared of'brush this aummer,-and to also place and maintain at least one trash barrell at the Jetties Beach parking area during the wint~ months.
