HomeMy WebLinkAbout1957-09-05~Selectmens Meeting 5 Sept. 1957 The meeting came to order as Selectmen at 8.65 PMhaving been preceeded by a County Commissioners Meeting~ all members of the Board Seing present. Warrant No. 36, totalling $8,565.97 was presented by Town Acct. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board with the ex- ception of certain bills and vouchers of the Sewer Dept. which were only signed by one member and which were held out to be signed by the other members. Voucher numbers 3136 thru 3141. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. ~ M~. Robert Christman was presented and discussed with the Board the matter of the complaint made the previous week as regards his cottages, stated that he had been policing the premises personally and that he could not be responsible for noise made by persons on the street after they had left his cottage State that only one complaint had been made to the police this season and that had been made by tenants at his cottages relative to noise coming from a cottage not.~.owned by him, but by M~. Allen Holdgate and M~. Ormonde Iugall who were signers of the aforesaid petition. '~ M~. William Burdick Sr. was present and discussed with the Board his application for the position~of cleaning the streets about the center of town. After '~Iscussion the Board voted to give this job to Mr. Burdick on a trial basis and to so advise the Supt. of streets. The Board was in receipt of a letter from Mr. Clarence Gilford Ch. of the Hospital D2ive Committee thanking the Board for its assistance in this matter. A letter was received from the Nantucket Yacht Club Inc. advising that the catwalk along the authority bulkhead would be made available du~ing the winter months to local boatman, provided they would apply for said privelige to the yacht club and sign a guest privelige card. The local press were requested to give this matter the necessary publicity in their columns. The Board was in r~eceipt of a copy of a letter from N.E. Ailines to Mr. Stephen Herlitz in reply to a complaint as regards their service. Same was Placed ou file. A letter was received from a Mrs Nicholsen of Butterside Up. re- lative to noise and late parties from the cottage at the rear of her dwelling used by the White Elephant hel~ and same was referred to the White Elephant. It was voted to request Mr. Robert T. Curriee lessee of the Jetties Beach to confer with the Board at its next meeting. It was voted to write Mr. Clarence Lyons, contractor on windows at Our Island Home relative to completing this contract. The B~ardea~p~oEed a state hawkers & pedlers license of one Kermit Roosevelt Jr. who runs the ice cream turck business formerly operated by Ray Taylor. There being no further business the Board went into executive' session~to discuss welfare matters and adj. at 10. 20 PM. selectmens Neeting 5 Sept. 195~ . .~ Welfare: ~ A notice was received from' Dr. Kelley at Poc'asset relative to a Margaret Barnard, who was admitted to'said hospital' ~- to be removed to her home in Phil. and asking that we agree to pay for her confinement there and pointiug out that ~his was reimburseable from the state, Same was approved. The. Board discussed the matter, of the applic, s tion of Mrs Catherine Grant to Our Island Home, this woman over 70 and with no husband~ or children is suffering from a mild mental condition. Inasmuch as Dr. Folger her physician ha~ advised that he felt this patient should be sent to the state hospita at Taunton for treatment and observation before being admitte the Board took no action on this matter.
