The meeting came~ to order at 8.10 PM Mr.~ Blair being~ absent but coming in later.
.Warrant No. 30 totalling $16,856.11 was presented by Town Acct.
Barrett and checked and approved by the Board.
~inutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Nr. Cbs. Sayle and M~. Elwyn Francis w, ere present and again
complained to the Board that people were still being
told they could not use the Jetties beach. This matter
was discussed and it was voted that we have Ns. Currie
meet with us next week.
It was also ~eported that the beach at the end of Jefferson St.
and the childreus beach were dirty, these matters were
referred to Mr. Gilbert Burchel! Jr. for attentions.
Mr.' William Price w~s granted a permit to hold the Sidewalk Art
show on Aug. 19th-~0th & ~lst as in previous years.
Mr. Richard Corkish was granted a Common Vict. license at the
Dairy Bar ~th Milestone.
~,~. Harold Liudley wrote placing his name before the board for
consideration for appointment to the Finance Committee.
Mrs Edith S. Mason wrote suggesting that a sign be placed on
the Wauwinet road indicating the entrance of the Square rd.
and it was voted to refere the matter to the highway dept.
A letter was received from ~r. F~ank Look of the Steamship Auth
advising that ~r letter protesting the sch. and supportin
the shcedule to be proposed by Mr. Backus would be placed
before the authority meet lng.
The DPU wrote advising that the application of the Waunacomet
water company for an increase in rates had been continute
and ~that we would be further advised when date for a hear.

Mr. Paul Whitten in behalf of the Sons & Daughters was granted
~ a permit to sell tickets from a table ou Nain street for
a production to be held th~ month of A~u~yst.
As this was all' the business pr'esently before 'the Board and
Blair having arrived it was suggested that we have
Currie come over if available to discuss the complaints
'as regards the beach. ~r. Currie was called came to the
meeting and discussed the matter of the operation of the
beach with the Board. Nr. Currie advised that he had
given his m gUard who various complaints arose around,
other duties and that he had placed his brother in law
who was an~older person in charge of the beach. The Board
discussed the problem of the fact that under existing law
we cannot lease the exclusi~ right to any pert of the
beach and it was the feeling of all of the Board that we
should make an attempt to obtain'enabling legislation to
allow the leasing of a portion of the park land area as
well as the bath houses so as to provide facilities and
atmosphere for those of our visitors who desired this
service, leaving the remaining and largest portion of the
beach to be used by all at no charge.
It was noted that Mr. ~aurice Kiley was requesting a street
light on North street and this matter was filed for
the Board to inspect the area.

Mr. Barrett Suggested that we Write Rep. ~ooney~tharking him
for his assistance in obtaining the Sheep common legislati
and it was so voted.
It was noted that there sh'ould~e a sign des~gnating~the way
to the hospital et the intersection of Ple~sant,_,York
and atlantic ave. and this matter was referred to the
highway dept.
The Board then went into executive session and adj. at ll:10
In executive session it was reported ~ that ~ the u.S. G0v. w~s
about to sell the Readio Com~as~ station property at
Surfside and that the t~wn under the law could have first
refusal the appraised price was $8,000 the town if ac-
quiring for a park would pay
a historical site there wo~d be uo charge. The matter
was discussed and it was felt that there was no practical
reason for the town to attempt to acquire this property.
It was reported that Fire Chief Bartlett desired to test the
hoseeacquired from justin ~;~cCarthy, Co. around Aug. ~0th
and it was voted to advise Mr. ~aCarthy to this effect
and invite him ~to be present and to advise him that we
would make'the time etc. comply to his schedule if he woul
advise us when~ it would be con~nient for him to come~ It
{~as also voted to request him to advise us where we might
~ obtain underwriters approved testing equipment and spec-
ifications.
