Absent: Secy. Glidden, Mr. Hardy served as Secy Pro Tern.
Warrant No. 28, totalling $32~046.34 was presented by Town Acct.
Barrett and checked and approved by the Board.
Minutes of the previous meeting were .~ea~ and approved.
Members Of the Hospital drive committee met with the Board and
picutures were taken of the Board signing pledge cards for
publicity purpose~.
A hearing having been held at i PM at the airport and no ob s
having been made the Board approved a license for an undergr und
tank for the storage of 100 octane aircraft gas.
0n request of Chief Howes, Francis Conrad and Howard Bardsley
were appointed Sp. police officer, the former to serve at
the Siasconset Casino and the latter at Dreamland theatre.
The D. A. R. were granted a permit to sell tickets on Main street
on 15 July 1957
Wm. Mason was granted a peri, it to hang a sign over the sidewalk a~
33 Federal St. same having been approved as to fOl~llmby the
Hist. Dist. Comm.
Master Robert M. Howard was granted a permit to sell lemonade at
the corner of Lyon and Fair streets.
Mr. Joseph Cabral was granted a permit to hold dances a~~ Legion
Hall from 9 to I every other Thurs starting 18 July
and also granted a permit to dispense food and soft drinks.
Mr. Henry Bridges dba The Chit Chat Room was grouted a permit for
a Juke Box week days only limitepto l~ midnite.
It was voted to request the Highway dept. to cut the grass at the
circle at the end of Easton street and to make the S. side
public parking and to make the circle a rotary from Eastou
street.
A complaint was noted and filed from ~Huram Macy as to the firm of
Towhill and Chase washing cars on S. Water street·
It was voted to have a snap type turnoff, installed at the public
toilet~ u~inals at the Jetties beach.
The VFW was granted a permit to sell tickets on Main street on
~various dates in connection with a play being held on
July 57.
The Board slgned a proclamation designating July 21st Hospital
Sunday.
A notice was received a~d filed from the Yacht club advi's'ing
they would be holding various types of private entertainmen
on Thursdays at the club.
Mr. Barrett noted that'a'c0mpla~nt had been made as to some taxi
operat0~s~ soliciting iu various liquor establishments.
It was vote~ ~to take some action to prohibit Jeeps. from driving
on public~ beache s ·
It was voted~'o advise keepers of private dumps, Parker Gray,
Airport, Wa~winet House, Fred Alle, Albert Johuseu, Mules
Reis, and Nathan Thurston concerning the condition of said
It~was vot~d to notify Chief Bartlett lto proceed with the in-
stallation of the Fire'Alarm system at Our Island Home
as per our letter previously sent.
It was voted to write Mr. Frank Look Mgr.~ of the Steamship Auth~
concerning the poor schedule and requesting that the boat
either keep' the schedttle or if not possible change ~it.
It was voted to request Mr. Backus, our Authority member to meet
with us next week to discuss matters relating to the Boat
line.
It was voted to have slow children signs in place'of~slow signs
on West Dover street and a new sign on Tennessee Ave. in
~ Madaket.
There being no further business the Board went into executive
session to discuss welfare matters an adj. at ' l0 PM.
Executive session: Discussion of Probation officer, and advisabil by
of writing to probation board of the state concerning
of Probation officerin not following up those on Probations.
