3 July 1957 -- All present.
The meetiBg came to Order as Selectmen at 9.30 PM having been
preceeded by a County Commissioners Meeting. Du~ing the
County Meeting an intermission was taken and Ch. Pease
presented the Boston Post cane to Mr. Peter Hussey the
oldest male resident of the Town of Nentucket (91).
Louis Ayotte was presented au complainted as to the noise
coming from the Snack Shop operated by Manuel Corera late
in the evening due to entertainment. It was voted to limit
the entertainment license to 12 midnite at least until we
had an opportunity to look into this matter further.
Mr. Robert Pittman Grimes and Mr. Frank Hardy were granted Taxi
permits subject to their having proper liability insurance.
The Baptist aid society was granted permission to use the Sanford
House grounds for a food sale on ll July and 15 Aug.
A letter was received from J,~stin McCarthy Co. relative to our
complaint as regards fire hose and asking that the defective
lengths be sent back to him for return to the factory. Same
was referred to the Fire Chief.
An opinion was received from the Town Counsel advising tbmt there
was no authority to do anything about hedges blocking the
view of traffic at morners. All that could be done was to
cut back any hedges which encroach on the sidewalk. It was
voted to request the Supt. of streets to make a list of
hedges which did so obstruct the sidewalk so that we could
advise the owners to have them cut back this fall.
A notice was received from the Secy. of State as to the applicstio~
by E. U. Crosby and other for Inc. as the Theatre Workshop In,
and requesting that we certify as to character of applicants.
Same was done and voted forwarded.
Congdons Pharmacy Inc. was granted a renewal of their Soft drink
license.
A letter was 'received from the D.P.W. ~dvising that the Army Eng.
felt that the cost of erosion control would be prohib&tive
and suggesting that the best method would be to nourish the
beachside shore w~th dredged material should some become
available in the future. Said letter was placed on file.
The Elect. Time Co. advised that their forsmau Mr. Flood would be
on the Island Monday to take the hands off the clock and to
meet with the carpenter and electrician in regards to work
at the clock.
Mr. Hardy brought up the matter of the lack of a life guard at
the Jetties beach area on the right side near the Evan prop.
it was voted to have a sign erected, No life Guard on Duty
use at own risk,
It was voted to have the pilots iu the gas heaters at the ~.tovm
bldg. shut of£~ for the s~muner.
It was voted to write the Commandant 1st Naval Dist. complimenting
Cmdr. 0ndrechen on his tour of duty-here and to also write
Cmdr. 0ndrechen personally on the same subject.
Mr. Blair discussed with the Board the matter of speeding and othe
violations of law which have been occurring over a period of
years and asked that the public all cooperate iu reporting
violations for the good of all.
Mr. Bar~ett commented on the 'poor boat schedule and the Board dis-
cussed this matter but no action was taken.

Mr.' 6scar,Mi~hetti was before the meeting and complained of cong-
estion on lower Main street, stated he could not get through
~ashington street and had been insulted.

There being no further busi~ss the meeting adjourned at, ll.10 PM.
