All members of the Board presenb except NLr. Ha~y
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Warrant No. B0, totalling $1B,~88.15 was presented by Town Acct.
Barrett and checked and approved by the Board.
The Board discussed the matter of the painting of the Sanford
House,~it appearing that Mr. Douglass Lawrence had agreed
to do the work with the exception of the fences at a price
of $1500.00 the matter of two sealed bids from Clifford
Ryder and W. P. Hardy & Son received after the date on
which bids were closed was discussed and it was felt that
inasmuch as the bids had not been submitted when called
for and that NLr. Lawrence had agreed in ~ood faith to do
the work that the job should be awarded to Mr. Lawrence and
the sealed bids returned unopened. So Voted.
A letter was received from the Fire Chief advising that he had
tested some of the new hose purchased from Justin McCarthy
oi,,
Co. and that a coupling had come off a length of ~w hose
at a pressure of 500 lbs per sq inch. the hose is supposed
to be rated at 600. On the 1½" hose he reported that same
was only l~ inch at the coupling and suggested that Mr.
McCarthy be requested to make a test of the hose here. The
Board discussed this matter, felt that it was fair to ask
Mr. McCarthy if it were feasable to make a~ test here to
resolve this matter, but felt that inasmuch as the McCarthy
Co. is a reputable one and one we have had good relations
with that there was no necessity for holding up his bill as
had been suggested by the chief. .. -
Notice was recieved from the CAS of reneWal of the sub ~surface
power line land contract for an area near long pond and
filed.
Bids were received on old fire equipment as follows:
John H. Bartlett Jr. ~ leugtsh of suction hose bid $4.00
voted.
Andrew Lewis Hose carts, and batteries, bid $~1 .00 voted
Walter Barrett, doors $35.5~, voted.
Al notice was rec$ived from Chief Bartlett that the~ woods were
being closed due to the drought and enclosing copy of notice
he was having published~ & requesting permission to atte
Fire Chiefs convention ~n New Hampshire, same was appr ~.
At the request of Mr. Carl Stig it was voted to have a new sign
placed on Liberty street.
The Siasconset Casil~m was granted a renewal of its permit to
sound motion pictures for the summer season.
The Mad Hatter was granted an entertainment permit for re corded
mus ic. '
A communication was received from-the 1st Naval dist. enclosing
a .proposed le~se of easement for road around perrimeter of
· .Naval facility, that had been previously approved by the
"Board and asking approval of two minor changes,,one as to
a note that the consideration was 1.00 dollar and the other
that the term was to be 50 years., same were voted approved.

The Naut. Cottage Hosp. drive was granted permission to display
flags about town as part of their campaign drive for ~unds.
The Gordon Floger Hotel was granted a fenwal of its Innh&~ders ~.
The Si~sconset Golf was granted a soft drink license.
A notice was reciev~d By,mt'., the Board as to bushes obstructing
view at Gosnold rd. and'Cliff rd. and it was alee noted
the same condition existed at Upper vestal street and
rd. It was voted to refer these matter to the Supt. of stree ;s
and to also write the town counsel asking an opinion' as to
the rights of the Board as regards hedges obscuring cormers
On recommendation of Chief Howes, Gilbert Burchell Jr. and John
Lydgate were appointed Sp. Police officers, the latter to
serve at the Cliffside beach only and for the present s~mme:
season.
Mr. Joseph Cabral requested a permit to operate a dance at Le
Hall on the 4th from l0 to 3 AM the Board felt that 3AM
closing would cause to much noise at that hour and voted to
approve~ same until 1PM.
Mr. Luther Fernald , India House was granted an Iunholders Lic.
The Board discussed the matter of the parking regulation voted
last week as regards N. Beech stteet and voted to rescind
it previous vote 3o the effect that N. Beech street be
no parking on the East side between N. Beach and E. Lincoln
avenue, on a trial basis.
Mr. Barrett stated that he felt that the bills coming into the
Board should be more ~ully itemized as to just what they
covered.
It was voted to request Supt. of streets Jaeckle to give us'the-
full picture on the cost of the new street sweeper it
appearing that bills were coming in each week'for new brooms
It was aslo voted to inquire from the Supt. as to just how
much curb was placed this year at N. Liberty street.
The matter of the buoy offshore from the Humane house on
was discussed and Mr. Barrett was nominated as a committee
to look into this matter and advise.
Supt. Jaeckle reported that he and Chief Howes approved making
Vesper Lane a stop street at Atlantic Ave. and same was so
voted.

The electric' time co. wrote stating that their foreman would be
on the Island on July 8th and would like to meet with our
electrician and carpenter at that time. Mr. Blair upon .~e~-.~
quest of the Board stated he would go over the details/a~n'~d~
the Board approved having the caretaker Mr. Reginald Reed
any carpentry work necessary.
The Board then went ~i~to executive session to discuss Welf~.re
matters and adjourned at lO.15 PM.
