HomeMy WebLinkAbout1957-05-29Selectmens Meeting ~9 May 1957 8PM All members of the Board present. Warrant NO. ~ ~ totalling~/~/ was presented by Town Acct. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Minutes of the Previous meeting were read and approved. The Board under the heading~of old business discussed the appoin- tmants of Albert WhitehAll and Robert Murray to the public relations committee~ after lengthy discussion of the pros and cons it was on motion made and seconded Voted that the public relations committee membership be increased to seven and the matter on new appointments was tabled for a week so that all members of the Board could famaliarize themselve with the matter. A contract with one Edward Teran who is to handle the publicity and public relations for the steering com~aittee on the 300th anniversay celebration was presented by Mr. George Jones Ch. of the steering committee. After examination it appeared that a clause relative to cnacellation by either pary on 30 days notice had been omitted and it was voted that the contracts be reqritten with this clause inserted and that the Ch. Mr. Pease be authroized to sign said con- tracts for the Board. A tele~am was received from Cong. Nichol~sen advising that the Army Eng. had advised that no fund s would be available for dredging the channel until fiscal year 1958 which starts I July 195V. A letter was received fromone H. B. Chadwick a Monomoy resident protesting the paving of Monomoy road and placed on file. Mr. Stanley Whelden submitted a f~gure of $450.00 for the in- stallation of toilet facilities at public toilets at the Jetties Beach. As Mr. Whelden did not have a copy of the specifications it was voted to forward him a copy and ask if his bid as stated would cover the work as set out on said, specifications. Secy. Glidden advised that Mr. Backus of the Authority had and infor~ned that the steamship authority were to reconside~ the summer schedule of the Boatline and that any change not be effective t~ll I July 195~. The Board approved pole locations of lower pleasant street and authorized installation of an additional street light on S. Prospect street~ near the new hospital. A notifications was received from the State DgW of a public hearing ~o~be held at the Sanfo~d House on Wed. 5 June relative to the Polpis road project. M~s Kermit Roosevelt wrote advising that she had purchased the Ice cream business of Ray Taylor and the Board approved the issuance of the same license to her as formerly issa~d th Mr. Taylor. The Board approved arequest of the U.S.Naval facility to move a large crane to Stemaboat wharf on 5 June. 5~. Applications were received from Ed. Barrett Jr. Peter Gomes and Lester Ayers Jr. for the position of Marine Fish Wardam the post having been made vacant by the mandatory resignation of Mr. Chapel he having reached age 70.
