HomeMy WebLinkAbout1957-05-16Selectmens Meeting 16 May 1957. The meeting came to order at 8PM all members of the Board being present. Warrant No. 20,' totalling $29,743.59 was presented by Town Act. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Minutes of the previous regular and special meeting were read and approved. Mr. Vernon Hamilton and Mr. Philip Murray were present~and spoke and presented a petition protesting the paving of Monomoy road. The Board felt the protest arose out of misiufoEnation or lack of infoEnation as to what was proposed and suggested that as soon as we had the plans from the state we would notify them to come in so that we could go over the details. Mr. Albert L. Silva was present and in~ed as to the proposed pole locations on N. Beach street. The matter was tabled' for one week to allow Mr. Silva to confer with Mr. Ryder of the gas & electric Co. Mr. Walter Huffman was present and asked if a shade could be put on the light near his property if same was to be moved back to its previous location. After some discussion the Board advised they would look into the matter. M~. Devine of the Boston Mutual Ins. Co. was present and discusse( with the Board various phases of the town group insurance program. It was Voted:'That a new employee coming into the towns ser- vice after the closing of the original group shall not be eligible for insurance until the 15th day of the month immediately following sixty days of continous active service It was Voted: That if an employee declines to become in- ~sured when he or she first becomes eligible that he or she will not again become eligible for a period of one year from date of said declination. At this time he or she must present proof of insureability and if he 'or she is age~s~ty (60) or over they will never become eligibie. Mr. J. Reginald Haskell was granted a permit to hang a sign over his place of business, cot. Whale and St. Wharf. The Board approved the request of the .Memorial Day Committee~for a peEnit to parade under aEns on Memorial Day and that the' Memorial Day appropriation be under the supervision of the Spanish War Veterans assisted by the Legion and VFW. Mr. Albert whitehill Secy. of the 300th Anniversary Committee wrote requesting authorization to use part of the former Welfare Office, presently being used part time by C.D. state Mt.Morgan C ~. Director had no objection. Voted approve, The Legion Aux. were granted~a permit for a poppy day of 25 May. Esther Gibbs was granted a renewal of her Innholders Lic. dba North Shore Restau~atn. Mr. John Reynolds Jr. dba The Blacksmith Shop was granted a Common Vict license. A notice was received from the DPW waterways div. Of a hearing on 27 May of the application of the Steamship Auth. for a permit to construct a structure in tidewater. As we had no knowledge of the matter it was voted to have the Secy. check with the DPW/ Selectm~ns 'Meeting ~ 16 May 57 page 2. ~ A letter was received from Sen. Ed.~C. Stone in reply to letter sent him with reference ,the steamship auth. seh, advising that he was contacting one of the authority members. A pet. was p~esented~ by Lawrence Miller for ~pproval' of a bulk ,storage plant at St. Wharf East or,the presently 'existing bulk storage plant. This would be in place of the location abutting 01d North Wharf previously approved by the Board. Date for hearing on same wasset for 1PM Tues 28 May 195V. It was v'oted tO have the comfort stations open for the Memorial Day weekend. M~. Barrett rep0rt~d that he had looked at Tennessee Ave. in Madaket and would suggest that the proper location for a street light would be on,Pole No, V. The Board voted to apprg?ed a light at this location. It was voted to Write Miss Nancy simms ~elative to her duties at the Childrens Beach.
