The meeting came to order at 7.30 PI~ all members of the Board
except Mr. Pease being present. M~. Hardy served as Ch.
pro Tern..
Warrant No. 15 totalling $19,970.9§ was presented by Town A0ct.
Barrett and checked and approved by the Board.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Bids on the leasing of the Jetties Beach were opened. 0nly one
bid was received that from M~. Robert T. Cu~r~e in the
amount of $4,000.00. On motion made and seconde~ it was
voted that same be accepted. The period being for 3 years
at $4,000.00 per year.
A letter was received from Rep. Mooney advising that he had at
the Board request filed a bill to allow the town to purchase
the Sheep Commons as voted.
A letter was received from the Fishermens Asso. stating that
they had voted to approved the Boards action relative to th~
sheep commons.
A letter was received from the Commandant of the U.S.CG. advisi~
that rumors that the°83 footer stationed here was to be
moved were unfounded. .._
The Board approved pole locations for the Gas ~ Elec. and The
Tel. corn at the co~ner of cnadle and Salem streets and on
chester street.
The l~oberts house was granted a renewal of its Innholders lic.
J. R. Haskell dba Rainbow Foods was granted a fenwal of his
Common Vict. license to be used at a new location on St.
wharf.
Two letters were received from the Div. of Marine Fisheries
relative to clam and quahog seed and referred to the Shell-
fish warden Mr. Wimslow for answer.
An application was received from Mr~ C. George ~nastos, Nant.
Spa for an entertainment license for an accordian player or
guartuirest, same was tabled for one week.
Notice was received of a DPU rate hearing to be held on I May
at 1V Federal street on Gas & Electric rates.
Town Counsel Sanguiuetti advised that the town might accept a
gift of land from M~s Dwight and it was voted to request
that he go forward with the steps necessary to consolidate
this offer. ~
It was ~oted to request the stores etc. on main street to 'close
f~om lB to 3 on Good Fiday.
It was voted to advertise the fact that a public hearing would
be held at 7.30 PM at the Cyrus Pierce~School on the matter
of Harbo~ improvements by the U.S. AEny En~ on ~ue~aythe 16'
Two applications for petroelum storage ~ermtts .were before the
Board, one from Lawrence Miller for additional storage
at Straight Wharf, abutting N. Wharf and one f~om the Hosp.
for storage at the new hospital. It was voted that a hearing
be held 9. 'May 57 at 1PM at the Hosp and ~.30 PM at Staright
' Wharf. ~.
Seleetmens Meeting
ll April
Mr.~ Me,win ~lount harbor master nominated Mr. Elliot W~elden
as Deputy Harbor master to serve~at Madaket and on motion
made and seconded~it was so voted.
The Board went over ~wtth the ~HarboP Master and Mr. Cbs Davis
various areas for use of water skiers and~approved the
following locations: area off Western Jetty with landing
site at town park land, area off Coatue in the area known
as the "Horeshed" and an area between 1st and ~nd point
Coatue in the inner harbor, all of said locations being as
shown on a chart on file with the Board.
The matter of the sheep commons was discussed and it was ~suggest~
that the Secy. confer with the Smith estate relative to
sale price of same. ~
There being no further business, the Board whet into executive
session to discuss welfare matters:
Welfare: Approval~was granted for Dr. Harvey to remove a cyst
from the eyelid of Lottie 01cott at the agreed price
of $35.oo.
The Board then made an examination of various streets
with reference to lighting and felt that lights should
be placed in the following tenative locations.
1. New street opposite Carl West property, reloc~ti0n.
2' Orange street, relocation~to foot of New'street.
3. Vestal street extension about 200 yds beyond the
last existiug light.~'
4. N. Beach street 2 lights, ap28x opposite E~ Eincoln
Ave. and change'of power of light near Chs.
5. Swain street, one light near rear of Service Sra.
parking lot and another Just beyond'curve in Swain
street.
