The Board/met first as Bureau of 01d Age Assistance and th~n
conveyed as Selectmen at 8 PM. .
Warrant No. 18, totalling' $8,898.00 having been previously .
approved by the Board due to the Ho!.iday on Fri. ~as noted
in the records.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Bids Fire Truck:
0nly one bid was received for the fire-t~uck that from
American LaFrance. b~oken down into two items.
$28,987.65 ,and $2V,500.00 with minor modifications f~0m
those specified. Inasmuch as the amount appropriated was
only $2V,500 it was voted to accept the latter, with the
stipulation that the exception as to sliding glass in the
rear of the cab be deleted as an exception, same being
agreeable to the company representative who was present.
Mr. Leroy True of the Highshhool bldg. committee Was present and
gave the Board the final figures on the construction of the
school, same being $455,821.96 with $91,164.39 to be retu~n~
in state aid. It was voted to accept said report, and to
discharge said committee wi-th a voted of thanks for a job
well done.
Mr. George Hamblin was present and requested that he be given
an opportunity to bid on Articles 29 and 30 relative to
cleaning beaches and collecting rubbish at town beaches. It
was voted to have the Supt. of streets provide us with ;
specifications on this matter.
A lette..r ~'ddressed to Phi-l~ Grant from the Seafoad Producers Asso
relative to harbor improvements was received and voted
referred to the A~my Eng.
The Board signed the contract with the DPW for the maintenance
of the state highway for the next six months.
A bid on article 41,' clearning land nea~ the Jetties Beach Was
received f~om John H. Bartlett Jr. being the only bid, in
the amount of $400.00 and voted accepted.
~. George Anastos dba' The Spa Cafe was granted an entertainemtn
permit,, for a guitar or a~cordian player, weekdays 0nly.
Mr. Earl Lowel requested approval for a sign over the sideWalk
-.~.~ on Center street at the Cora Stevens property, subject to
approval of the Historic Districts Commission and same was
approved.
A letter was received from 'ShePb~rne 0il Co; requesting that
gasoline purchases of town vehicles be placed out to bid.
This matter was discussed and tabled at this time.
A letter was received from the Legion Post listing names of
fire and police patrol for our approval, same was referred
to Chief Howes for his approval before Board action.
Mr. Gilbert Burchell Sr. was appointed Caretaker of Cemetary Lot
for the ensuing year.
Mr. Ray Taylor was granted a renewal Of his Ice Cream peddlers
license fo~ the ensuing year with the same conditions as in
previous years.
selec~mens Meeting
18 April 195V.
Approval was granted the Planning Board to use the Selectmeus
rooms on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month for their
regular meetings.
Applications for alcoholic beverage license"renewal was received
from the Nad Hatter and request for approval of change of
location from James T.'Worth, Inc. and voted to take the
course prescribed by law.
Allens Lobster grill was granted an entertainment license for
background music provided by mechanical or electrical means
on Sundays~ and Weekdays
Manuel and Anna Corena were granted a~ approval for renewal of
their entertainment at the Snack ~hop.
N~. Robert Caldwell was appointed a member of the Public C ommitte ~.
The Board having conducted a hearing as provided by law, the
application of Walter F. Glowacki for a permit to store
petroleum products at his tar pit was Voted approved.
Bids were received on electrification of the town clock as
follows:
Howard Clock Products Co. Inc. - .... $3,230.00
Electric Time Co. 2,9V6.00 ·
It was voted that contract be awarded the lowest.

Street lights were approved as follows: W. Chester street, near'
the plucinski residence.
It was voted to de-~ignate 6 Nay 5V as clean up week and to so
advertise at the appropriate time.
The matter of the sign over the street at Hatchs filling station
was discussed and it was voted to request that same be
moved back or higher as it now constituted a t~affic hazard
It was voted to request the Supt. of streets provide us with
specifications so that we might adv. for bids on road work.

There being no further business the board went into executive
sessions to discuss welfare matters and adj. at 10.30 PM.
Welfare: Case of Marianne Gibbs at Home for Little Wanderers,
letter was received from social worker requesting, need
of 50 to V5 cents per week for petty cash and V5~ per
week was approved.
The matter of listing of Inns at the-information bureau
~as discussed and it was voted to write the public re-
lations committee advising that we f~t that the Inn
listing should only apply to those establishments ~
having a public dining room open to the general public,
all others regardless of name should be listed under
lodging houses.
