HomeMy WebLinkAbout1957-04-04,Selectmens Me,ting 4 April 1957 ---V.30 PM The Board'first met as County commissioners and then convened as Selectn~n at $.~0 PM.~ All members of the Board being present. Warrant No. 14, totalling $2~,055.~6 was presented by Town Acct. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. M~. Peter Morton was present and discussed with the' Board a surface water condition at his property on Cliff Rd. and the Board was of theopinion that this matter should be referred to the Sewer Dept. M~. Morton suggested that he would like to construct a cement curb at hts property line and the Board stated they had no objection to this. Mr. Jaeckle Supt. of streets presented Specifications for the clearing of the Park land near the Jetties Beach and it was voted to advertise same for bids to be in on the 18th. A letter was received from Mrs Elias J. Lyon protesting the manner in which the tree spraying was carried on and the consequent spraying of her car. It was voted that same be referred to the Tree Commission. Mr. Walter C. Knott wrote thanking the Board for his appointment to the Finance Committee. d Mr. Robert Congdon wrote advising that he had considered the Boards request to remain on the Finance Committee and felt he could not longer do so and requested that the Board accept his resignation. Mr. Kenneth E~dridge .wrote advising the Board that he had been appointed as Supt. of th~ Sconset Water Dept. and con- sequently was resigning from the Finance Committee, sug~est~ the name of Elmer Davis. Mr. Marcus Ramsdell wrote requesting consideration of his n~me for appointment to the Finance Committee.~ All of these matters with reference to the Finance Committee were t~bled at this time. Applications were -received from Nobadeer'Inc., Lawrence and ~arj. Miller Harbor House, Paul & Grace Klingelfuss White Elephanl Hotel and Nantucket Yacht' Club for renewal ~of their all al- coholic beverage licenses, and the application of Simon Kaufman for approval of the transfer of his license to The Green Coff. ee.Pot Inc. it was voted that all take the course prescribed by law. The Boax~l discussed the matter Sf Famtl~ Shellfish permits and it was voted that same be issued to service men stationed on the island irrespective if they were residents of Mass. A notice was received from the DPW of the application of Lawrenc~ Miller to construct Finger piers at Straight wharf accordin~ to plan before the Board. the hearing to be ih Boston on 22 April. The Board had no objections to the plan as pre- sented. Rep. Mccray wrote advising that the Boat line bills had~all been referred to a committee to investigate and hold hearings. Roland M. Coffin caretaker ~f the Sconset dump submitted figures of 6.00 per hr. from K. Coffin, 6,00 per hr from Albert Johnsen'and"~O 'per, hr from walte~ G10waoki fo~ bulldoz~ 'the sconset dump and recommended K. Coffin.~ and the Board voted to approve same. .~ ~ ,~ for renewal of their Innholders licenses as it appeared that neither was serving regular meals at this~time it was voted to approve Eodging House licenses for same. A letter was received from G. N. Glidden, Secy. A letter was received from Hilda Lawrence relative to her ~DC case and it was the feeling of the Board that this case should go to appeal so as to insure out state & federal cont- ribution in the futume. Approval was granted for Mrs 01cott-at Island Home to have cyst removed from eye by Dr. Harvey. ~, Approval' was granted-to N~s Carl Appleton to have a ear mold and cord for a hearing aid given her.
