The matter of the re~sons for the Boards denying that applicatio~
of M~. Thu~ston and Mr. Johnsen for permits to transport
garbage were discussed; Mr. Burgess stated that his reason
was based on the matter of public health and that he felt
having truckman carting garbage,to the dump and other place
would materially effect the rat extermination program of th~
townY M~. Glidden stated he. felt that it appeared that the
present two co lectors were able to handle all the calls
and that having more would tend to cause competitative pric~
cutting with consequent effect on the effeciancy of the
collection and the end result that their would not be euou~
money in it for anyone to have the proper equipment and
properly serve the public and~protect the health. Various
other members of the Board commented on this problem and~
all agreed that there were many reasons connected with the
protection of health which motivated the Board in denying
th&se permits.
