HomeMy WebLinkAbout1956-12-05Selectm~ns Meeting 5 Dec. 1956 The meeting came 'to order at 8.15 PM having been preceeded by a County Commissioners Meeting, all members of the Board except Mr. ~Coffin being present. Warrant No."49, totalling $14,499~30 was presented by Town Acct~ Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and~ approved. Mr. Marcus Ramsdell was present and inquired~ as to whether the M~ater Co. was adding Fluride to our water, a letter was received on the same subject from Mrs. E. J. Lyon. The Board discussed the matter and referred to a letter from the water co. and the State Dept. of Health in which it was indicated that Calgon and Cloride were to be added but no mention was made of flurides. Iu any event it was voted to write the water co. for information on this matter Mr. Byron Snow~ Pres. of the Fishermens Asso was present and invited the members of the Board and their Wives to the associations supper and dance at legion hall on Sat. 15 Dec at 6.30 PM. Mr. Snow also presented recommendations voted by the Asso. at their last regular meeting as follows: 1. The Shellfish warden be asked to check on sc~llop seed in the horseshed area so called. Referred to Warden. 2. That dep. shellfish Warden be retained till appropriat expended. No action. 3. That the tov~ consider the matter of a town wharf at the tov~n land near the creeks. This mstter was at some length the board being of the opinion that it would be more practical to try and purchase Commercial' wharf, along this line it was voted to have the Secy. inquire of Eben Hutchinson Jr. waht price he might place on this property. A letter was received from the p~blic relatio6s committee ad~ vising of a meeting on Tues the llth to discuss our 300th anniversay c~lebration. Bids were received~and opened on the printing of the aonual Town report onla per page basis as follows: Iuq. & Mirr~or ~5.35 per page; Town Crier $3.~9 per page. Voted awarded lowest bidder. A letter copy of one' sent to county commissioners by Atty Gardn~ Russell was received and filed, subject, property of Cunningham on Brenton Rd. Mr. Joh Walsh was granted a per, nit to m~ve the crane of Turner & Breivo~el from St. Wharf to the Gas & Elec.~plaut, return he to notify the Police dept. before mo~iug. A hearing having been held on the Site, the apPliction of the Naut. Coust. Co. for a peEnit to store Gas was approved. The following transfers f~om the ~eserve fund were for~'~arded to the Finance Committee for their actiouo: Legal Dept. 1300.0( $15.28: Vital Stat- Tax. Collector ~60.00; Interest account istics $20.00. A letter was re ceived f~om Rep. Robert Mooney advising that he 5 Dec. 56 and'senator Stone' had filed th'e bills requested ~on the~Boat~ line. And also that.he had filed a bill' at the request the Rights of Ways Committee to have the~ State take over a section of beach near Sesachacha Pond and then turn same over to state. This latter matter was discussed at some~ length the Board being of the opinion that stste ownership of our beaches was something ~nat should be gone into most carefully and only embarked upon if the voters had voted on same at town meeting.
