HomeMy WebLinkAbout1956-10-24Selectmens Meeting 24 Oct. ~1958 7.45PM. Ail members of the Board present except Secy. Glidden, Mr. Hardy served as Secy pro tern. Warrant No.~ 43 totalling $15~652.33 was presented by Town 'Acct. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Warden Wiusiow was present and reported to the Board on the Scall~op situation in the harbor and in madaket.' He noted that there was a few seed but not in any quanity, very few adult scallops in either Madaket or the main harbor, felt the prospects were not good for a profitable season. The Board approved joint pole locations on Shimmor Rd. abutters having been duly notified. A letter was received'from the' DPW with reference to the lay out under Ch. 81 sec. 29A of Tom Nevers road and Sankaty road and it was voted that same be laid out under said ch. and section. A letter was received from Searoad Trans. Co. relative to their operation and commenting that it was hoped to reduce 'rates ? 5 to 10% below that of the Authority. A letter was received from the Wannacomet Water Co. setting out the procedure to be followed in cleaning various water mains in and about town and advising that Calgon would be added to the water supply~ same having approved by the state d~pt. publtc'health. A letter'on this same matter was also received from said state dept. advising of their approval. · ~fight lng ~ The Board was invited to'attend a fire/demonstration at the tar pit on Sunday ~8 ~c~t~.1956. The board received through town counsel Sang.u. inettia w~it in an action of tort against the town for $9,000 damages by one Clara M. Thomas of Baltimore Md. for information, same was referred to the town counsel for action. It was Voted to meet with Mr. Eurran of the State reclamation Board, ~and members of the mosquito control~commission on Frd 26 Oct. at 3.30 PM at the selectmens rooms. It was voted to write N~. Legg the contractor on the town b~n relative to his. completion of this work. The Board then went into executive session to discuss a welfare matter at adJ at 9PM. Welfare: . The case of M~rlin C~ocker Was discussed and it was voted to advise the daughter Velma Hammond that they must bear the cost of any medical attention, medicines and hospital expenses etc. The Board examined and approved the 'commercial Scallop regulations for the 1956 5V season, see copy attached.
