HomeMy WebLinkAbout1956-09-19Selectmeus Me'ting ~ 19 Sept. 56~ ~ The meeting came to order at 8 PM all members of the Board being pre sent. Warrant No. 38, totalling $7,4V3.95 was presented by Town Acct. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. Minutes'of the previous meeting were approved. Town Counsel Sanguinetti was present and stated that th~ U.S. Navy was leasing from Coffin and Smith interests various land near the loran station in Sconset and~ that inasmuch as the Town has an agreemtn for use of land' from the Smith estate in this area that both the Smith'est. and the Navy wanted to know if we had any objections. Same would in no way affect the area we presently use for dumping. Voted we have no objection to same. Mr. Me,win Blount, wire inspector was granted a l~ave'of absence for a short period he to make arrangements to have his Job covered. The Board approved a bill of John Caddigan for Sp. police service but voted to write Chief Howes that we felt that a policy should be established of only furnishing Police Service afte~ a fire for a 24 hour period. It wax voted to have a meeting next Wed. with the Finance Committ~ and any other interested parties on the matter of the propos~ harbor dredging work. Same to be at 7.30 PM. It was voted that starting next week ou~ regular meetings be at V .30 PM. It was voted to write Senator Sal tons tall and Cong~ess~an Nichole~ relative to the money allotted to harbor dredging to see if same could be applied to another harbo~ .pr0Ject. A letter was received from Senator Stone relative to Mosquito Commission nominations and it was voted to write Mr. Get~y of the State Reclamation Board and ask if he could ~eet withus on this matte~. Mr. Manuel Au~ujo was granted a peEnit to erect a staging at No. 30 Pine St. Mr. Coffin brought up~ the matter of failure of the fire dept. to call the Sconset dept. when they Nantucket received a call from Sconset; the matter of apparent lack of practicla train! to the Scouset dept. as Mr. Coffin stated they went to the Moby Dick fire and used all the booster tank before making an attempt to hook up to a hydrant; and the question of how the hose laying ou the floor at the sconset garage could be ~ quickly used at a fire. After discussion it was voted to writ the Fire Chief and ask his advi ces on these matters. There being no further business the meeting aJourned at 9.1~ PM. James K. Glidden, Secy.
