Coffin being present. ~.~ Warrant No. 21, totalling ~21,388.61 was presented by Town Ac6t. Barrett and checked and approved by the Board. I.~inutes of the previous meeting were approved. Atty. G. ~. Poland was present in behalf of his client Nr. Nathan Tho~ston and requested that the Board ~ake some decision on their request fo~ a permit to carry garbage, after some dis- cussion Atty. Poland was advised that we wore working on a set of appropriate regulations to govern said collections. ~!r. Jesse Eldridge,'Caretaker of the Sconset Comfort Sta. conferre. . with the Board relative to necessary repipeing and repairs and was requested to obtain some figures on what would be needed. L~r. Eldredge.also noted with reference to 'garbage that the naval unit at Tom Nevers dzm~ped their ga~-bage on the Scouset dump. ~r. Charles C. Coffin co_.mmented that some old ca~. wrecks ha~ been left in the area of Tom Nevers pond and shou~ld be cleaned l,lr. Coffin presented two notes for si~afnatures by the Board to authorize ~e town treasurer to borrow as voted by the tov~u in ar~ticipatation of revenue, total amount of said notes was 100,000.00 dollars. A petition was presented by Grieder and Nickersou signed by variou~ interested persons requesting that the present wt. limitation be increased to $5,000 lbs net. After much discussion pro and con no action was taken by the Board on t~is matter. Tt~e specific request of ~'~r. Grieder and i¥;~. Nickerson fo~,~. asp. ~ermit to move overloaded trailers loaded with cases of soda , through the streets was not aooroved i~ appearing that th&se loads could be broken. Notice and invitation to attez[~ the ~emorial day exercises, which are to be held in the mo~ning was received. The Board also voting to grant a permit for the pattie on this day. Notification was received from the U. S. ArmY Eng. that th'e]~ ~will have someone here on the island on ~June 6th to confer ~;zith the Board on the matte~ of beach erosion which we had writter them ab out. ]~iro Andrew O. Lewis caretaker of the Toyota dump presented bids' as ~follows on bulldozing on au hourly ,basis at said ~ump. ~ant. Coust. Co. 6.V5; Kenneth Coffin Jr., 5.50; Albert Johnsc V.O0 i~,~. Lewis also submitted the sixe of the blades and,the type of each equipment and on motion made anti_seconded' v~s authorized to retain the Hant. Const Co. for this work. ]gr. Roland ~. Coffin caretaker fo the Siasconset'dump, s-ub- mitered over the telepone bids of W. Glowacki 9,00 and Keuuet~ Coffin 6.00 per hour. It was voted that he be authorized to retain ]:ir. Kenneth Coffin for this work. Specifications for thermalux. Gen. voted by the sp. Town meeting were received and it was voted to advertise same, bids to be in the hands of the Board on 6 June. Selectmens l~eeti~g 23 ~;~ay 1956 A'copy Of the special act of the leg, authorizing a tr~Jnsfer of a portiontol town land to the 'steamship authority was received and it was voted to refe~ same,to,the town counsel and that an easement be granted under said act and vote~ of the town ~. voted to authorize a figure of ~!500.00 rot necessary exterio~ repairs and to so advise the lessee ~r. Currie. It was voted that S. Water street be no ~rking on the West side, and one hour parking on the East ,~ide from l~ain to lower Pear: streets I,giss ~ Nancy Si~mms was appoinbed lifeguard at the Chi~drens Beach for the coming season. Notice was received fMom the Historic Districts Com~.ission of the approval of a permit to ~e'Islander Inc. for a 'sign and aunin~ and it was'voted to authorize a permit for erection of same. The following licenses and Per'mits were g~anted: Ernest Lema Sp. Police; Elliot ~T_aelden Dep. Harbor I$~ster to serve at I.'~adaket; Lucky Pierre restat~rnat Comu. Vict.; Albert L.
