ThE .meeting can~ to order at 7.30 P~,! all members of ~the Boated
being present.
Warrant No. 18, totalling' ~i2,958.24 was presented by Town'icct.
Barrett and checked and approved by the Board.
I,~inutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Atty. Geo. i~. Poland was present with client ~r. & Mrs Nathan
Thurston and presented to t he Board a formal request for
a license or permit to co~ lect garbage in the Town of
Nantucket..This ~tter was tabled for one week until we
could consult with the tovm counsel as regards the law on
this ~.att er.
Town Counsel Sangu;nteei presented a petition for f~ling in the
Land Court as regards the registration proceedings at the
childrens beach area.' It was voted that same be approved
and that the Ch. be and is authorized to slg.n same in be-
half of the Board.
The Board discussed the matter of the salaries of Nurses Aids
and maids at out Island Home it appearing that we could
not obtain help at the present scale. This matter was
gone over with the Town Counsel and it wss his opinion
that the Board had authority to raise said salaries. After
discussion it was voted that the Nurses Aids be paid at
the rate of ~45.00 per week; if living iu ~38.00 per week.
~Iaids ~35.00 per week. and that we so notify the Finance
Committee and the Town Accountant.
Mr. J.Gordan l~!acDonald dba Downyflake Doughnut Shop was granted
a renewal of his Co~uon Vict. license.
The Amer. Leg. Aux. was granted a permit for a Poppy day on 26
May.
Andrew O. Lewis was granted a renewal of his Junk Dealers
license.
Mr. Herbert P. Smith Comdr. 'Spanish Araer . War Vet. wrote reouest:
that the appropriation for ~emorial Day and other patriotic
holidays be under the supervision of the Spanish Amer. ~far
Veterans, assisted by the Amer. Legion and V. F. W. as in
previous years and it was so voted.
~r. and ~[rs Luther Fernald were granted a renewal of their Inn-
holders license at the India House, provided they are
still serving heals to the public.
The Board and the Trans. Comuittee met With ~¥~r. Howard II. Chase
our ~.~.ember of the Steamshio Authority. ~Ir. Chase advised ~
us of the status of, the Union negotiations add asked for
an opinion of the Board as to whether or not we would be
in favor of any additional increases to the Union. The
men, bets of both committess were polled and all were .~ppose~
to any additional increases. It was then voted to w-site
Mr. Chase that in ffiew of the present financial position oI
the authority and the fact that any increases in the Union
· -' contract would most certainly cause a taxable defecit that
we~ were opposed to any iucrese in the present Union Contra
After discussion it was voted that the Innholders and All Alcohol
license at the Ocean House be approved, with the stipualtic
that said licenses do not apply to the Lodge, at this time.
