July 1955,
The'meeting~came to order at 8.10 PM all members of the Board
being present.
Warrant No. ~30 totalling t~18,544~98 was presented' by Town
Acct. Barrett and checked and approved by ~the Board.,
Minutes of the previous ,meeting were ~ead and ap'proved.~ ~
Mr. ~ Henry B. Coleman~ was present ~ in behalE of the Nantucket
Island Chamber of Commerce and advised that the ·Chamber was t~
hold a courtesy town meeting on 22 August 1955 at 8PM at a pl~
be selected, asked the Boards thoughts on same. The Board was
unanimous in feeling that this was an excellent idea.
Mr. ¥~illiam Winslow shellfish ward. eh was present and advised
that he had received and planted a supply of shft shell clams
from the Vineyard. ~ ~
Chief Howes was present and dis~cussed with the Board the.
standees in front of the~movies at the 2nd show, ·stated that
he had ~iscussed this with the operators anti.they were to
provide a Sp.~ Police officer to line .these patrons up on the
sidewalk.
The matter of the Land Court notice in the petition of one
Katherine Cunningham for Reg. of Sconset land was referred to
the town counsel-to ente~ a~protest i~ behalf of the
Removal of Poles of the Gas~and Elec. and Tel.~ and Tel~ 0u
Polpis road was approved. .~ ~
Approval was granted on the petition ~of the Nantucket 'Airport
Commission for gas storage at the airport, a public hearing,
having been held as provided by law and no protests being
received.
It was~ voted mto request the S~pt. of streets to~'~clean up
seed~an intersection triangle at Siasconset, at the junction
of W. Sankaty Ave. ~
It 9as voted to inquire of the Town counsel of the ststus of
the childrens~b~ach land court, petition.
James Moriarity was granted a peEnit for a sign over the
street at his bicycle shop on Center street
Mr. L. R. Sellew Didst. Highway Eng. advised~that the te~ative~
date for the annual Jcounty hea~ing has be~en set for 26 Aug.
~ There .being 'no further b~sine~s the Board We~t into executive
session to discuss welfare matters ~and adj. at 9.45 PM.
Se~y. Glidden ~eported that a M~. Johu Barth had reported
that his wife Elsie Barth had tripped on a raised brick or
bricks at the sidewalk near the corne~ of Pleasnat street, on
Main in front of the Satler property, and broken her leg very
badly,' he listed his add~ess as 2§0 Adelphi St~. Brooklyn N.Y.
and stated that the accident had occurred on July 20th shortly
after noon. This matter was referred to the Supt. of streets.
