T~e~meeting came to order at 7.~0 PN all members of the Board

MinUtes. of the previous meeting were read a~nd approved.
It was voted to write Mr.' Albert Johnsen and advise that we
were cancelling ou~ agreement as regards the use of his, bull~
dozer at the town dumDs due to the fact that since the original
bid and agreement he'has disposed~'of his'large dozer and is
now using a much smaller machine which is not capable of doing
the same amount of work per hour.

The Board went over the p~oposed'regulations as regards' weight
limits and on motion made ~and' seconded same were adopted as of
this_ date ~and signed, said regulations to be forwarded to the~
DPW for approval and later advertised before becoming law. Copy~
Df said regulations attached and made a part of these minutes.
It was also ~oted to Wrtie' the ~PW as to the cOst ~0f a portable
load weigher to be used in conjunction w~th said wt. law.,
Mr. stevens civil Defense Dir;'~ for the Cape and,,Islaud'APea'
conferred with the ~Board~ on the status of the local:civil ~ ~
defense and offered to come down at any time,and~ ~how movie's ,~
and give a talk o~ this ~ubject. Mr. Hat,dy and ~M. Glidden are
to take the matter of civil defense-up with the local dir&c~or
M~. Leske and-see if all our efforts cannot be,cood~nated. ,
It was voted to' have the Secy Check with Mr. Ri'~ley Nelson'of
the Historical Asso. as regards the respons&bility for main-
tenance of the fence at the ~uaker Cemetary. ~ ~
The ~atter'of the salary of Patrolman Elwyn Francis Jr. was i-~, ~
discussed at some length and the Board felt and voted,to'advise
chief Howes that he was to be paid for six weeks'f~om the time
of his illness his regular two weeks~ vaCation,being iucluded~in
this ,per~.od.~'As ~the,town Has no'~olicy as ~egard's sick l~eave ~
or monetary provision to provide for same the Board had no
alternative ,but to take this action~ due to the 'fact that Chief
Howes has a fixed budget and must obtain another officer to
take Mr; FrancisSs place.~ The Board~ felt that ~.~x in view of
various factors such as~partial coverage -of. salary by Poli6e
Asso; insurance, the voluntary fund which is'growing daily,
and other factors that no immediate financial need was apparent
and that consequently the matter of whether or not said salary
should~be continued for a longer or indefinate'period was prop-
erly one for the voters to decide in town meeting. ~ ~ ·

state funds for' work on ~ pier, yacht basin or what have you
at Nantucket Harbor. ~
It was voted to have the S~cy. Confer~with Supt. Jaeckle as
regards the stop signs at Dove~ and Union streets and New
